Metro Detroit and the worst I can report is that all of the leaves I raked into the street for pick-up were deposited back on my lawn. So all-in-all, nothing serious to report here. About a half million without power, but we dodged that bullet in the Lendervedder house.
Northwestern Indiana checking in - LOTS of wind and rain, the sky turned green for about 15 minutes, and debris in the backyard. 10 pounds of it was metal junk blown in by the wind which I took down to the recycler, the rest of the mess went in the dumpster. None of it was any sort of personal item that could potentially be returned, it was all structural wood and insulation and plastic/paper/unidentifiable scraps.
Boy’s tornado warnings helped save family
kid urges family to seek shelter after the siren as he was taught at school. mom wants to ignore it because the skies are clear and so it must be a drill.
drills are held at specific times (like Wednesday at noon) so people can know not to take shelter at that time if things look OK.
people should also pay attention to weather forecasts once a day. expected property/life damaging weather was predicted the day before. on the days of expected storms people should take the effort to know current weather through a weather radio (USA and Canada have alerts which sound an alert and turn on the sound, you don’t need more effort but have it on) or broadcast radio or tv.
