Due to a work assignment I’ve started spending significant amounts of time in a small back room so close to the building’s HVAC system that the floor constantly vibrates. Just a little, mind you; it’s not like office supplies fall off the shelves or anything. I don’t notice it if I’m just standing in the room, but when I sit in a chair at one of the desks I start to feel it after a few minutes. For some reason I’m sensitive to it, and after a while it makes me feel sick. It doesn’t seem to bother anyone else, though, and there’s no option to work somewhere else for the duration of this project, so I have to figure out a way to deal with it.
I looked up anti-vibration mats, thinking maybe I could put something between my chair and the floor to either dampen or (hopefully) completely mask the vibrations, but they all seem designed to contain the vibrations emanating from equipment that is on the floor – e.g., a washing machine.
Does anyone know what I’m talking about (re: the HVAC-vibrating floor), and/or can anyone take a stab at guessing whether an anti-vibration mat might work in this situation?
I found a $13 one that I’m thinking about just getting/trying, but I figured I’d pose the question here in case someone else had the same problem and (a) tried one and it didn’t help at all, and/or (b) can tell me what worked for them.
