Might atom smashers destroy the world?

My friend told me that there is a very very small chance that the experiements we are conducting in atom smashers just might create a particle that can go willy-nilly anhilliating matter bit by bit until the whole universe is destroyed. Is this true?

Are there any other freaky unlikely results?

Apparently not.

It’s utterly true. First rule of science: Anything a friend tells you is true. After all, a friend wouldn’t lie to you.

For completeness, there’s the technical report by the team commissioned by Brookhaven to assess the risks.
