Mike Flanagan Takes on CARRIE

Second episode, her first seeing the library is amazingly well done.

We are four episodes in and there appears to be a super obvious twist that the show better not pretend we didn’t see coming. I won’t spoil it, but I’m surprised how obvious one of the twists is…unless the reveal never happens and I’m wrong.

I know exactly which twist you’re expecting. You’re right about it…sort of. There’s a little twist to the twist.

I binged it in two days and thought it was excellent.

Well, at least it has a bit of a twisted twist. I’ll get there soon enough.

Are you thinking of Haunting of Hill House and

Are you thinking of Haunting of Hill House and Fall of the House of Usher? Yeah, I hated those parts too. Especially the one in Hill House. There are no cats in SK’s book, so unless he sticks one in, I think we’re safe.

I watched the first ep and like it, though it’s much different than I’d imagined. I think the lead actor is very good. I also think she’s almost too attractive. I’m kind of with @Dung_Beetle , it would be more believable if she were a little overweight (or had some aspect that nasty teens use against one another). I’m a bit disappointed not to see some of MF’s usual actors on the cast list, espacially Carla Gugino and Kate Siegel. At least he’s included Michael Trucco (Chris’s father). Does anyone play an arrogant prick better?

I know Kate Siegel will show up at some point. (they’re also my favorite Hollywood couple, both do such great work)

Midnight Mass! My friend recommended it without warning me. I was horrified!

No cats in the original, but I fear for the pigs on that farm…

Kate Siegel appears to at least be working beind the scenes. I think she had a director credit in one episode.

I’ve finished episode 4. It’s kind of a mixed bag for me. I like some changes, others don’t really work for me. I will elaborate when I have processed a bit more.

A couple of Easter eggs:

A character was named Mrs. Piper, I assume an homage to Piper Laurie who played Margaret White in the original movie and the Evil Dead reference on the big box store uniforms.

I’ve finished all the episodes and (spoler!) there wasn’t a single cat. Or dog that I recall. There is a lizard.

Is that meant to be a twist to the twist? I expected that to be the meaning of the twist from when I first realized the twist.

If you ever wanted to see an adult Lisa Simpson chased by a truck, I guess that’s about as close as you’re going to get.

Even though she’s cute, it’s written in a way that the bullying makes sense, though. Instead of being a reclusive weirdo who’s a subject of torment for years, she’s eager and brand new to school and the outside world. She’s basically a dramatic version of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Teenagers are not kind to that level of naivete and earnestness.

Another Easter egg from the final episode The marquee on the movie theater was advertising a Brian DePalma retrospective in 35mm

Hot damn, she sure did; her role executed perfectly, as always pun totally intended.

I’m embarassed to admit I’m not certain what twist you’re refering to. the teacher having sex with the student?

I enjoyed it overall, though there are some elements that I don’t think I understand. MF projects are always well cast and this one is too, maybe with the exception of the Ms. Desjardin part. The actor and script aren’t nearly tough enough. That’s the role I was hoping Kate Siegel was going to play. Also could do without Heather Graham and Gil Bellows characters / storyline.

Seems pretty clear that this show is directed at young SK fans (as it should be). I understand but can’t really relate to the online war stuff. Also don’t recognize any of the music. For anyone more in touch with current popular music, are these songs recognizable? I like some of it, especially the ones that sound like '80s music :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: A lot of it seemed extra emo, though I like a few of those too.
Excuse me while I gather up my knitting and set a spell in my rocker.

Really? I wouldn’t want to go up against Amber Midthunder. I might be able to take Betty Buckley on a good day.

I thought the music all sounded the same. They also seemed to be heavily promoting that band on the T shirt (Haute and Freddy?). The X-ray feature on Amazon was showing the names of all the musical artists and they had a lot of songs on there. I think the only ones I recognized were Lana Del Rey and Agnes Obel. But I enjoy knitting so…

The friend being an invisible friend, I assumed.

Eight songs were used.

Ah. I should have figured that out from @Mahaloth 's post. I guess I didn’t think that was supposed to be a twist because it is pretty obvious. Not saying I got it immediately but it didn’t take long.

I feel like they made her deal deliberately ambiguous but that they expected you to realize something was off. Like a half-twist.

We’ve learned that Mike Flanagan loves Battlestar. This show featured:

Katee Sackoff - Starbuck

Tamoh Penikett - Helio

Michael Trucco - Anders

Aaron Douglas - Chief Galen

Rekha Sharma - Tory
