Mike Huckabee keeps blowing my mind

Huckabee’s likeableness, and his veneer or reasonability, make him all the more dangerous.

I like Huckabee, too. I wouldn’t vote for him. I find him (pre clemency) more frightening than Palin because he’s far more polished - his folksy charm seems sincere and he seems like a nice guy - Palin’s folksy charm is awfully mean spirited to be called charm. And I think that would have made him more electable. (Now, I think the Seattle shooter thing makes him too hot…also, I don’t get this whole “politicans on camera” all the time thing as commentators. All that stuff can now be pulled and used against you. Politicians as commentators or on reality shows? Seems to be politicians are one step up from people who want to sit on the Supreme Court in terms of really giving their opinions or letting you see what they really think.)

But I agree, he’d throw one hell of a Church picnic. He’d be an interesting guest at a cocktail party. I suspect he’d be a good neighbor, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him sit on an interdenomiational council (in fact, I think he’d be quite interesting in a group of various Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindi, Buddhist, etc leaders).

Later Presidents also weighed in now and then. FDR supported the 21st Amendment, repealing Prohibition; JFK and LBJ strongly supported the 24th Amendment, banning poll taxes; and both Ford and Carter were vocal in support of the ERA.

Mother Jones says Huckabee has a problem with government transparency, at least when it comes to his own time as Governor of Arkansas: Huckabee Hearts Secrecy – Mother Jones

Yeah, he’s kind of a sucker for those who wave the Bible, I think. He backed the freaking “Fair Tax,” for crying out loud.

Nice guy, apparently not malicious, but would be a tool of evildoers all the same. So really a classic modern-era ideal GOP candidate.

So, does Huck’s misspeak show him in a new light than a few months ago?

He was clearly talking about the Kenyan-Burmese political philosopher Papa U Maumau, who was referenced in several protest songs by the notorious Wilson Brothers (and someone using the name “Mike Love”) that were popular in Obama’s exotic homeland.

Don’t hold your breath.

Specifically, who are you talking about, and specifcally, what did Huckabee do wrong?

He’s talking about Maurice Clemmons, the guy who shot four cops to death in November 2009.

The guy is a good politician most times. He comes across as amiable and thoughtful.

He is dangerous. He is the religious right dressed up to be a bit more palatable to main stream America.

Don’t be fooled.

Hell, pick out your own link.
Their name is legion.
oops. beat to it.

Blaming Huckabee for the murders struck me as unfair then and now. The petition for clemency–from hefty sentences imposed for teenage crimes–was supported by a judge. Huckabee as governor granted that. Later a state parole board went ahead with an actual parole and he was released. Still later prosecutors dropped parole-violation charges that would have returned Clemmons to prison. Different decisions at any of these four stages could have averted the killing.

As a whole, and with the considerable benefit of hindsight, the Clemmons case can be called a system failure. But it’s debatable how much each official actor in the case contributed to the failure, or could have been expected to better imagine the ultimate outcome. Clearly the same system has released plenty of other people who haven’t gone on to commit notorious new crimes. The decision I’m inclined to question most is that of the last prosecutors to have a crack at him.

I find the more recent revelations of Huck’s views much more alarming.

This. If Huckabee isn’t a Christian Reconstructionst, (or Dominionist; I don’t think there’s much difference) then he hangs around with a lot of them (Shakesville: Huckabee the Dominionist). And John Rushdoony, who founded CR and has written about fifty books on the subject, said specifically that CR needs to find political candidates (starting with school boards and the like) who will hide their CR connections and act like normal, polite human beings until they have enough power to take over and start stoning gays and adulterers.

Priests, ministers, reverends and politicians share one and only one trait-- they lie for a living.

Huckabee, and all those like him, should be banned from running for any type of public office. He is racist, claims the US to be a christian country, opposes hate crime legislation that includes sexual orientation and gender identity. He defines marriage as between a woman and man only and wants to pass legislation to legalize that closed and bigoted mindset. He opposes an Employment Non-Discrimination Act that protects gays, lesbians and transgender people from job discrimination. He is against civil unions. He believes wives should “graciously submit” to their husbands.

If any of you think he’s just wooing the religious right you are dead, dead wrong. He IS the religious right. He wants to rule a fictional land called Christianville or Deludedville.

He says, “…I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And thats what we need to do is amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than trying to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.”

As far as I am concerned it is the US voters duty to keep religious crap like his out of the government. The more devout, the bigger liar, the bigger racist, the bigger asshole. Anyone who supports this creature of deceit is clearly un-American and unconstitutional. I can only hope for the worst for this man is all his life’s aspects. Perhaps his loving god can treat him like Job, since he’s so faithful.

Go to hell, Huckabee.

Heh. That reminds me of The Dodger Song*:

*Oh, the candidate’s a dodger, yes, a well-known dodger,
Oh, the candidate’s a dodger, yes, and I’m a dodger too.
He’ll meet you and treat you and ask you for your vote,
But look out, boys, he’s a-dodgin’ for your vote.
We’re all a-dodgin’,
Dodgin’, dodgin’, dodgin’,
Oh, we’re all a-dodgin’ out the way through the world

Oh, the preacher, he’s a dodger, yes, a well-known dodger,
Oh, the preacher, he’s a dodger, yes, and I’m a dodger, too.
He’ll preach the gospel and tell you of your crimes,
But look out, boys, he’s dodgin’ for your dimes.
We’re all a-dodgin’,
Dodgin’, dodgin’, dodgin’,
Oh, we’re all a-dodgin’ out the way through the world.*

*All well out of copyright, in case you were wondering

Huckabee should have said…My ideas of what is God’s laws. What is true is: that it is human’s ideas of what they believe some other person passed on as God’s Laws. They first have to prove that Moses was a real historical person, or that what people years ago believed some other persons and decided what was God’s law!

Rousas John Rushdoony. He has always either gone by that name or Rousas J. Rushdoony. To be fair tho, for some reason, lots of people get his first name wrong.
