Mike Patton of Faith No More: fact or fiction

I have recently rediscovered Faith No More, Mr Bungle, and the other works of Mike Patton. I love the guy and think that he is a musical genius with some seriously crazy vocal cords. I originally got into him in the early 90s when FMN was really big, and seem to remember that part of Patton’s persona was that there was nothing too nasty if it had shock value. One story that was particularly big at the time was that he would give himself an enema on stage and crap all over the audience. When I was a 20-year old, that just added to the mystique of FNM, but now in my discerning 30s, I find these rumors more disturbing, especially if Patton has any chance of becoming our generation’s Sinatra!

I have had a look on the web, but can’t find any reference to this. So, do any Dopers have insight into this mad genius?

I can’t imagine that he even WANTS to become our generation’s Sinatra.

I never got into Faith No More, but I give them credit for being one of the earliest groups to blend rock and rap. However, I really dig Lovage and Mr. Bungle. I know Patton is a crazy guy, but I’ve never heard about him taking dumps on the audience, G.G. Allin-style.

yeah, well, not really, but I must say I admire his chops when he is singing ‘straight’, which, admittedly, isn’t all that often…

If he really wanted, he could do an album of swing covers like Robbie Williams did…

I can picture the album art: “Songs to Swing By”, featuring a guy in a noose…

Not sure about the enema thing, but I saw a FNM video the other day on VH1 Classics for “Easy” or “I’m Easy (Like Sunday Morning)” , whatever that song was. Really strange song for FNM IMHO, and a strange video to go with it.

My first though was that stories about Patton got conflated with G.G. Allin.

yeah, it was part of a gross-out contest which Trent Reznor won by getting up on stage and EATING it!!!

Or was that what I heard in 4th Grade about Alice Cooper & Frank Zappa back in 1970?

hey, I just saw this in the FAQs on the Faith No More site.

It doesn’t directly answer the question, but does seem to hint at perceptions of the G G Allin nature…

Of course, now we have to find out if Mr Bungle wrote a song about Jim Martin

No, no. It was that Peter Criss of KISS shoved his drum sticks down Shawn Cassidy’s throat.

It’s true!! Every other third grader I knew in 1977 believed it too, so it has to be true.

I have friends who are huge FNM fans and they say it is common knowledge among hardcore fans that the man is into scat play. And there apparently some songs about it.

at a show (Bungle I believe) I saw Mike pick up a water bottle filled with what looked like piss, someone tossed it on stage, he talked about it for a bit then poured it all over himself…I love Patton but the dude is a freak.

You mean… he was fucking the dog?

i’m a huge FNM, Mr. bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk…etc fan, and have been to many shows in the past. I’ve never personally seen anything as to the OP, but I’ve heard many rumors that it has happened before.

No, no no. He passed out on stage and then they rushed him to the hospital and pumped an ounce of semen out of his stomach.

An ounce? I heard gallons! Or am I thinking of Rod Stewart…
