Why did he never put anything out that was quite as sublime a masterpiece as Mellow Gold? I mean, Odelay was in some ways superior, but that was as much due to the Dust Brothers “dirty 70’s” aesthetic as it was to his innate talents.

I’d say that two misstatements over a long career hardly makes him a serial liar. He served honorably for 24 years, end of story. And he’s served honorably in Congress and in the governor’s job, which is more than most politicians can say.
I can half-forgive him because I understand he was dragged into the cult as a child.
I didn’t know that, and yes, that makes it more excusable, but OTOH I was dragged into Catholicism as a child but very soon got out of it. It wasn’t hard.

I guess you have to apologize because her fans are going to be nasty to you otherwise, but jeez, you are bang on, and it sucks that you feel you can’t say it.
Yes, I have Beck on ignore already, so no one bother telling me to do that, but she posts enough garbage in her non bad, bad threads that normal people sometimes interact with her, and I check her posts to see what they are talking about. That stuff about Tim Walz is blatant sexism, and I’m amazed she gets a pass on it.
And if you just love Beck and her schtick so much that reading this upsets you, maybe don’t come into her Pit thread. Because she pisses some people off as well, and this is the thread for talking about that. You guys have a zillion fan threads where you can gush about how nice she is. If Beck is troubled by a mild Pit thread about her, she can mute it so that she never has to see it.
I will say that I would not voluntarily start posting in a separate Pit thread for Beck. I got here by accident.
I did find her hijack of the Tim Walz hot dish recipe thread, which I started, mildly exasperating. The thread was supposed to be about the cultural aspects of hot dish and/or the accuracy of recipe writing (two topics I find most engaging). But Beck was starting to turn into a thread about her impressions of whether or not Tim looks like he cooks. I reported the hijack.
So I own my comment in the “What were you THINKING?” thread, as I was gratified to realize that it was not just me, others could see the problem. Thus, my “I appreciate this observation” post.
But, to repeat myself, I wouldn’t come down on Beck in a Pit thread of her own. I unquestionably take exception to some of her attitudes and behaviors, but there are far more egregious targets for pitting out there. I would not energetically pick on someone who has told us that she is, more or less as I understand it, a homebody with health challenges who is tongue-tied when out and about in public. I believe the Dope is a significant source of community and support for Beck. It’s nice that it can offer that.
I think I was quite clear in why I apologized. It was because I didn’t like what I said when I read it again. I did not apologize because I was afraid of retribution.
Ok, fair enough. I’m just cranky that people say “it’s a good thing you apologised because we’d all think so much less of you”, as if you can’t have your own thoughts and feelings about someone.
Sexist? Wth? My Daddy was a great cook. My Son is a great cook. My ex-SIL is a head chef in a fancy restaurant in New Orleans. (The deer camp cooks? Umm…lets not go there)
It’s not that Walz is a man. It’s that he probably can throw a casserole together. But, who can’t? Jesus, man. This is common knowledge. This does not make a great chef/cook.
Again, I think he embellishes stuff. He’s proved this. I did not say he was a serial liar. I think he likes to talk himself up. Many folks do that. He’s running for the 2nd highest office in the land. Of course he has to talk about himself. Accentuate the positive, and all. He has a persona he needs to propagate. That’s politics. He is in the public eye. Open for opinions on him.
If some of you are foolish enough to believe he wrote those recipes, I just don’t what to tell you…
The reason something was wrong with recipe, in the first place is because it was copied from somewhere and whoever posted it needed to change it so as not to be accused of plagiarizing it.
