Mild Pitting of Beck

Over in CS, Beckdawreck is engaging in what I can only describe as “hotdish trutherism”; I.e., she asserts that Tim Walz must be lying about being a championship-winning hotdish cook, because he doesn’t “look” like he cooks.

I barely ever engage with her and I don’t really care one away or another about her Kathy-esque rants, but at some point she really oughta learn that the things her gut is telling her aren’t necessarily true and just because you think it doesn’t mean you have to post it.

I appreciate this observation.

Isn’t that her entire oeuvre, though? I don’t read threads about here apparently chaotic personal life, but in any other discussion, it’s either her gut feeling as gospel truth or her grandad’s epigrams as divine truths.

If you didn’t learn it at the knee of an illiterate confederate veteran, you don’t need to know it.

Don’t forget the wisdom she has retained from her daddy. Valuable stuff.

Seriously? Slow news day or something.

Ridiculous.

I find this offensive.

Report it.

Oh, that would work.

It’s awful funny to me that you can make judgement about me, over nothing, and not one of you people, No one, has ever engaged, talked to, met, or ‘ate’ (heh) at Walz’s house.

He’s been in the governors mansion for how long? Guess what? They have chefs. He ain’t cooking.

If he’s an award winner. Well, hot dish ain’t exactly Michelin star level. But, ok. I give him props for that.

Y’all bored. Find a hobby. Hey, maybe hot dish cookery.

IMHO, some of the comments above verge on being needlessly cruel and were certainly unnecessary. Beck’s opinions may sometimes be frivolous or old-school conservative, but so what? If it bothers you so much may I kindly suggest that you just put her on ignore.

Beck’s various thoughts and ramblings about her crazy home life remind me a little of the writer Shirley Jackson’s reminiscences about her own domestic adventures (“Life Among the Savages”). Except that Jackson was a deeply troubled person, whereas Beck seems to exude a commendable sense of cheerful optimism despite her considerable health problems. Her love of animals tells me all I need to know about her character. You don’t have to like her, you don’t have to read her posts, but you guys can surely manage to avoid beating up on her for no particular reason.

Blame it on the brown bear🐻

Only Beck is allowed to judge people she’s never met on the basis of gut impressions.

He has published a bunch of perfectly plausible recipes. Why on earth do you think he doesn’t cook?

As for having staff at the governor’s mansion… My mom did most of the day to day cooking for our household, and my father worked outside the home and brought in most of the income. But my dad loved to cook, and often cooked for holidays or parties. One of the last days i spent with him was spent stuffing prunes with fois gras so he could make some fancy stuffed roast goose recipe he saw in the NYT.

I don’t judge “you”. Or anyone on this board.
Or anyone in my RL that I know.

I judge famous people. Political candidates. Sports stars. Musicians.

I judge Walz to be an amiable, good natured blow off at the mouth. And judging from his other statements about his military service and his China visits. I’d say he embellishes. Alot.

He didn’t post those recipes some staff person did.

Can we spin this off to its own thread? I would be happy to do it. Please let me know.

He has a cook book? Hmm

If you want.

I’ve said all I’m gonna say about it. It’s quite unimportant.

So fun times beating up on Becks opinions about this are over.

Beck reminds me a whole lot of most of my own family.
That’s all I’m gonna say about that.
I likes her.

On further reflection, I apologize. That was way over the line in my own judgement. Whether the mods find it actionable or not.

I was absolutely engaging in offensive stereotyping.

Negative attention is still attention.

It was in the Pit, nothing could be actionable about what you wrote.

Though people will read it and judge what you wrote most likely; so the apology seems like a good idea.
