Military school, and public HS JROTC

We all know that graduating members of college ROTC programs are entitled–and expected–to accept officers’ commissions in the U.S. armed forces. But what about those who go to private military schools, or participate in high school JROTC programs? If these people decide to join the Army immediately after finishing high school, do they get any kind of additional benefit in return for their
greater military training? Higher pay? Admission to OCS?

This doesn’t exactly answer your question, but it clarifies it a bit. Graduating members of ROTC batallions ARE required to take a post in some form or another. They may choose one of three alternatives. Those choices are active duty in the U.S. Army, Army Reserves, or National Guard Duty.

I’m assuming the requirements are similar for the Air Force, Navy, and Marines, but I’m not in one of their batallions. I am currently a Cadet Private First Class in case it adds any credibility to this post.

I went to boarding schools, both military and non-, and no such “benefit” was ever offered to us.

They get promoted, immediately after basic training, one pay grade for every two years in JROTC.

but maybe it’s for the better.

To my understanding, JROTC offered little more than “special consideration” for ROTC scholarships.

I was also under the impression that only scholarship awardees were required to accept commisions: 4 and 2 year scholarships had different requirements?

Per my 4 years of MCJROTC you can be immediately promoted to E2 (Private First Class) in the USMC if you complete MCJROTC. I have not heard of anyone being promoted to E3 (Lance Corpral) from solely being in JROTC
