Mind Control

Certain conspiracy theories propose that people are forced to do acts because they are hypnotised or mind-controlled.

The argument in support of this idea runs something like this:

Think of what a stage hypnotist can do to a person in 30 seconds. Now imagine what such a hypnotist could do to someone if they had a week to work intensively on that person. Or a month.

Each hypnotee would be assigned a “master” ie a person who had the power to return you to your hypnotic state if you began to return to normal consciousness.

It would be hard to ensure that a person will do your bidding constantly unless the “master” is present.

Generally I considered this to be an interesting idea but, ultimately, highly unlikely. At least in the sense most conspiracy theroists would have us believe - that it is the CIA who are doing the mind-controlling in secret.

But is it possible that the terrorist network have been using this technique?

What made me wonder about this was this report from the Daily Mail newspaper in the UK:

"The FBI is attempting to uncover the minds of the terrorists and one of the key witnesses they will be using is a British woman who learned to fly alongside Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhiat at Huffman Aviation International Flight School in Venice Florida.

Anne Greaves, a 56-year-old osteopath and former nurse from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, spent six months with the two hijackers.

Mrs Greaves, who was fulfilling a life’s ambition to be a pilot, has told how Atta appeared to be in a trance-like state and showed no emotion while al-Shehhi acted as his protector.

“I will never forget Atta’s face. It was always set, almost in a grimace, like he was in trance” she said "As time went on I realised that he was always like that. I would have loved to do something, anything, to see if he could smile or have a trace of enlivenment in his eyes - but there was never anything there.

“He would walk towards the aircraft with the air of somebody who is doing something they don’t really want to, but was being forced to do.”

Could it be possible that some kind of mind control is in operation here?

Or is this idea just too whacky to consider?

It seems there are a number of articles about this topic. One scary one discusses implants to control another:

I just had a scary thought… What if our assumption that the aliens are implanting these devices has been wrong from the start? Have we considered the illuminati - and their leader - Mariah Carey?

Given that the CIA has already admitted to trying to control the minds of Americans, why can we safely assume that they, or foreign agencies with even less oversight, aren’t?

And I for on support our CIA brothers, because in the intereet of national security, sacrifices have to be made.

I love you, Echelon!

Wouldn’t any sort of extreme religious training be “mind control?”

I don’t know about that exact comment, Eternal, but it brings up an interesting topic.

Back in my college days, I was interested in this as a career. Specifically, I was interested in advertising and how it worked. As part of my course curriculum were classes that focussed on the psychology of advertising and the art of persuasion, to name only a few. I took quite a few classes in this area until I realized it wasn’t something I wanted to do for life. I switched out of it and moved on. But, it did leave me with some knowledge in this field. Not much, but some.

One aspect is the area of mind control, or more correctly, persuasive techniques and their effectiveness. While that topic alone is enough to fill volumes upon volumes of books, and is incredibly interesting to me, there’s only one aspect of that I want to bring up. And that is the involvement that our government had in the pursuit to understand persuasion and persuasive techniques.

Almost every study and technique we learned about, and then critiqued for it’s effectiveness, was published by some government agency. From the CIA and the NSA, all the way down to FEMA and Department of Agriculture, it seems no agency didn’t have their hand in the pot. Oftentimes their goals, or the purpose of the studies, were less than noble.

Our government was involved in some scary shit… and no matter how goofy the idea, the government was willing and able to toss some money and scientist behind it.

While the fact that our government was so interested in this is troubling enough, what really caught my eye was the fact that most of these studies had been published in the sixties and had been only recently (When I was in college- mid nineties) released.

It was eye opening in that it made you wonder what the government has been up to since. From what I could tell, they were going full bore with every conceivable angle of mind control/persuasion and anything remotely connected to the two. They sure as hell didn’t stop with the reports that we saw. In fact, each technique or study we read about talked about further research. Now I know every major research paper recommends further study, it’s almost a given, and it’s probably a correct assumption that some were stopped at that point, but it’d be foolish to believe none of these techniques were ever studied further.

So, I assume they kept pursuing these avenues of research, but none were available to us to see- like I said earlier, the papers that were available to the public went only as far as the late sixties. There’s almost a void of knowledge since then available to the public.

Anyrate, it makes you wonder what was done, and how far they came in the pursuit to persuade people.

At least it did to this kid.

It also makes me wonder what resources our pals ObL and the Taliban have access to… Although I guess that could just be filed under “bastardization of Islam”.

How easy/powerful is some of this research, though? Maybe we can start de-brainwashing some of these poor mislead souls?
Or re-brainwash them to lead us to ObL?
Or perhaps brainwash ObL? “I declare jihad on myself!”
