You are correct TaleraRis, as MrKnowItAll surmised… I posted this not knowing anything about logic puzzles. I beg for everyone’s forgiveness!

I did manage to solve this in 20 minutes, not too bad for a first time puzzler, I think. I must admit that I was impressed with the 10-minute solvers! But then again, the members of this board are of a most superior intellect!

I said I would post a solution, but I feel that it would be a moot point, as most people were able to easily solve it. I did like this type of problem, and would like anyone else to post similar, if not more difficult ones.

I found lots of them on the Internet, and am posting this one because it deals with Montana:

"Over the past year, five young ladies (Beth, Margo, Samantha, Kelly, and Penny) experienced a Montana Wilderness adventure. Each walked a different number of kilometers on their backpacking trip ( 3 kilometers to 7 kilometers). Each visited a unique wilderness location ( The Chinese Wall, Garnet Ghost Town, The Top of Deep, Last Chance Gulch, and Rock Creek ). And each saw a unique display of wildlife ( Pronghorns, Eagles, Bear Cubs, Beavers, and Mountain Goats). Can you tell which young adventuress visited which site, which animals they saw, and how many kilometers each traveled?

  1. Beth walked twice as far on her adventure as the young lady who saw the bear cubs wrestling playfully in a field of bear grass. The young woman who watched the beavers paddling below their damn one kilometer less than Penny. The adventuress who explored Rock Creek was not the one who walked 5 kilometers, nor the one who watched a group of busy beavers build their dam. The visitor to Last Chance Gulch walked either one kilometer more, or one less, than the one who visited Rock Creek.

  2. The adventuress, who waved a white hankie to lure the scampering pronghorns close, walked further than Margo, but not as far as the young woman who watched the snow white mountain goats jump from cliff to cliff. The young lady who made the climb to the Top of Deep walked further than at least one other young adventuress, but was not the one who walked the furthest. Either Kelly or Samantha walked more than one kilometer further than the other. Samantha did not view the eagles. The visitor to Top of Deep walked either one kilometer more, or one less, than Margo.

  3. The visitor to the haunted ruins of Garnet Ghost Town was not the one who watch the eagles dive from the sky for trout. The mountain goats did not play on the steep sheer cliffs of the Chinese Wall, nor did the beavers build a dam in the tall grass nearby. Kelly hiked further than the one who visited Top of Deep. The visitor to Garnet Ghost Town walked either one kilometer more, or one less, than the one who visited Top of Deep.

  4. The adventuress who visited Last Chance Gulch walked two kilometers more than the one who saw the beavers paddling. The young woman who had to run from the protective mother bear did not hike as far as Kelly, nor as far as the young woman who visited Garnet Ghost Town. At least one other adventurer walked further than Penny. The visitor to Rock Creek walked either one kilometer further or one kilometer less than the one who spied on the pronghorns."

So there ya go.
