Mine in Fairfax County, VA

Ok, I was driving back from visiting a friend at UVA over the weekend. I was taking Route 29 back, and right after entering Fairfax County and after passing Bull Run I saw a very large mine on the right (south?) side of the road. I have never heard about it or seen it before. A search on the boards and Google turned up nothing. Does anyone know the history behind it? What is mined there? What company owns it? Thanks much.

Try googling Luckstone Quarry

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, you can also go to www.washingtonpost.com and look for an article on zebra mussels. Apparently the quarry is used for diving instruction and these mussels make the water MUCH clearer – but kill of lots of stuff in the process. Or I can just go there and find out for you that the article is at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A27797-2003Mar14.html

Rather than Luckstone, it might be one of the facilities of Vulcan Quarries.
