Dude, I was there too, and I ended up being forced to cut off a lot of people too. You just can’t be polite in a situation like that.
Please, please, please tell me your joking. If Malone starts playing for the Lakers the same year that Stockton retires (I can barely even type that word) I think my whole world will crumble.
Duke, I find myself in full agreement with your sentiment. Laker fans are, of course, utterly unworthy of that team. And T.J. Simers should be thrown unceremoniously into the Pacific Ocean for the drivel he spews.
Nevertheless, the truth you speak does not outweigh your loathesome handle.
“Call again when your team has failed to win even half the consecutive titles of the [sub](please god let them acquire some supporting cast for next year)[/sub] Celtics?” What the hell kinda half-assed put-down is that?
I don’t think Malone’s going to LA. He’d rather go after the career scoring title than win a championship as a 5th wheel or whatever. As for Pippen… I don’t support the Lakers, but I’d think they’d be very, very desperate to go after him. They need to go younger.
LA-SA: Quite a game 6 though… I hate to see grown men cry (GO SPURS)
Crap, I should have paid closer attention to the person who threw out all three of MJ-Pippen-Malone to LA. It was on one of those post-game studio things, either TNT or ESPN. The distinguished-looking black man with a balding head and grayish beard? Ring a bell anyone? I’ll try to research it, get his name and the cite. I was just surprised someone would say that as it’s something of a pipe dream.
I mentioned the whole thing to a friend who recommends LA seek out Pele, Gretzky, and Joe Montana as well…
Whoa, sorry about my insult to your surname, Duke. Glad to hear that you aren’t really one of Satan’s spawns (aka a Cameron Crazy).
In my opinion, yes and no. Yes, in that Roy will bring much needed stability to the program and, with his record, will bring instant credibility. Also he’ll inherit some serious talent in Felton, May, and McCants. (As an aside to this aside, this is the real reason he accepted the job in 2003 and turned us down in 2000 - in 2000, he looked at the roster and saw shit, to put it nicely, while in 2003 he saw real potential).
I also say no, because Roy will not make the Tar Heel program what it was under Dean Smith, which is what us spoiled rotten Tar Heel fans expect and demand.
If you’re implying that Roy is just Dean Smith Jr., and that he will consistently make us bridesmaids but never brides…well…quite frankly, after what the Heels have been through the last few seasons, I’ll take it. It’s better than 8-20 and internal tumult.
Roy’s history of tourney choking does concern me, although to blame him for losing to Syracuse, when KU was 12-30 from the FT line, doesn’t seem fair.
Sooner or later, Neurotik, doesn’t the law of averages kick in? It took Dean six trips to the Final Four ('67, '68, '69, '72, '77, '81) before he won the big one in 1982. Even the despicable Coach K lost four times in the Final Four ('86, '88, '89, '90) before he finally won it all in 1991. Roy’s been to the Final Four four times ('91, '93, '02, '03), so maybe he’s due.
How odd, this thread has turned into discussing not just one but two of the teams I hate the most. Who acts more like spoiled brats . . . Laker fans or Carolina fans? Its neck and neck believe me.
Good point. As a UCLA fan I can almost understand. The Lavin years sucked, with consistently underperforming teams. Although, I was never alive during Wooden’s reign, so I’m not quite as spoiled and utterly demanding as the more veteran Bruin fans. They can get ugly.

You know what’s weird? Free throws are one of the most important aspects of the game. Missed FT’s ALWAYS come back to bite a team in the butt, but it’s almost like teams never practice them. When I was playing youth league, we worked on free throws constantly. It seems like coach’s at the college and pro level don’t do that, and I think they should. So I blame coaches (especially college coaches) if their kids can’t hit the FT’s down the stretch.

Sure, eventually, maybe. But look how long it took Boeheim. It just depends on whether Heel fans will give him the time it takes to do it. But there are pro coaches like Nelson and Adelman who seem to have a tendency to put together soft teams that come apart down the stretch and never win anything. So maybe it’s the coach’s fault. I dunno.
A Lakers fan from California wrote our local paper yesterday, and said that even though she has always been a Lakers fan, she was so charmed by what gracious, gentlemanly winners the Spurs were in the elimination game in LA that she “wishes them all the success of champions. They deserve it.”
I wish all sports fans were so gracious.
[sub]We had some Lakers fans in my bar for that game b/c it’s a tourist bar, and while I’ve got no real beef with Lakers fans–although I’m not too keen on the Lakers themselves–man, did they get all pissed off![/sub]
Hey, I hope the Spurs go all the way. Giving Robinson a last ring before he retires is nice, and Duncan is just awesome. Plus, you always want the team that beat yours to win all the way so you can at least say you were beaten by the best.
In the meantime, we can talk about the Stars vs. Ducks, or the state of the Rangers or Cowboys.
As much as J O’ Neal is not yet a franchise player who can carry his team, I’d hate it if he leaves for the Spurs. C’mon, the Spurs are already damn good. Just get Brand or Kandi or something. But, I have the feeling he will. Why? Because he can avoid the scrutiny of being a franchise player, be a Scottie or a Horry to Duncan and collect rings.
