There likely is a better master than a Blu-Ray DVD. There might be a film master or a videotape master (2" maybe). There must be a master they used for the Blu-Rays, at the least they would have used that (not an actual BR disc.)
Sorry that I have not read every post in this thread yet, someone might have already addressed this.
IIRC, Goodman was chosen because he fell onto the L-tracks and only his brain survived, and it was hard to find someone whose body was destroyed, rather than just injured or paralyzed - they didn’t want to do the Robocop thing of removing viable body parts.
I admit I don’t know the difference from remastering a series like with Trek TOS (Though I do know they did new special effects and actually added new shots)…and whatever they did with SMDM.
