We churn through around 100 MiniDV tapes a month in our work environment, and we have them very neatly organised for quick retrival should we need them (which we do, sometimes).
Unfortunately, our camera operators sometimes loose the tape cases which is very annoying when you’re as anal as I am.
We have tried to find a seller of empty MiniDV cases, but have had no luck. Surely someone, somewhere has them, and what better place than on the internet to find them, right? Wrong. If there’s nothing on Google or eBay, am I SOL?
Panasonic,JVC America, Sony Electronics, Inc., Maxell all make tapes of the kind you use, and I would assume, cases as well. Perhaps you could send a politlite explanation of your current situation to them. They also sell minor parts, such as wires and antenas on the sites I linked to, so perhaps they could sell you replacement cases.
Alternatively, you could always flog your camera man, until he stops losing tapes, or use a nylon storage case. True, with out the cases they would be a bit lose, but by gluing pieces of plastic inside, you can prevent rattling. Another possibility is to cut out holes in a block of foam, of the kind you see camcorders being lugged around in, to store tapes in.
I generally go to Full Compass for just about anything audio, video & media related.
Absolutely phenomenal service, pricing and product lines. I can’t recommend them enough. If they don’t carry it, they can get it.
Try calling their Compass Express Line (it’s toll-free).
Disclaimer: I have no stake in the company whatsoever, but do use them exclusively for almost all of my pro audio and studio needs.
