All those other examples of extremism scream hatred and intolerance. This one seems pretty mild. It includes a partisan suggestion (that God wanted to show that Obama is “the right man for the job”) in the middle of a list of several suggestions. Not really getting how this is in any way comparable to “9/11 was caused by gays” or “Katrina was God’s wrath for abortions” or “the Haiti earthquake was punishment for a pact that the country made with the devil”
There is a qualitative difference that everyone seems to be overlooking.
What I found interesting was that the guy spent the first 3/4 of the post explaining how silly and stupid people sound when they attribute disasters to God’s will, then went right ahead and attributed a disaster to God’s will. Just because you’re aware you’re saying something dumb doesn’t mean you aren’t saying something dumb.
I didn’t see it as a joke or a serious “God loves Obama!” piece, but more as a “You don’t know what God wants or means, so just love your fellow human beings!” message. He basically came right out and said that at the end–the whole thing was pretty much a “Don’t look for messages from God in disasters. You don’t know the mind or motives of God. Just come together and help the victims!”
Message from God: “Obama should be in the White House. And this other guy, in Jersey, shouldn’t be in that other house. This lady in Queens, she shouldn’t be in that one. And this apartment building? Nobody. Jesus, this is gonna take forever…” :smack:
