Minneapolis is Burning...?

I couldn’t sleep, I clicked on FB stuff for sale… and a ‘watch party’ is showing a huge fire from that area. The protest seems to have given way to destruction and fire… and that shit looks like the Rodney King Riots in LA were decades ago. Putting this in the Pit because I have no idea where it should go. Events are unfolding and part of a city seems to be burning down… live…

Good. I hope the PTB understand that cops killing a defenceless man will have repercussions. That is was a black man at the mercy of white cops makes it worse.

Keep on with the revolution Minneapolis.

Basically they were caught killing a black man on camera, then responded to protests with rubber bullets, tear gas and stun grenades. Something a lot of people are contrasting to how the police have been treating the right wing pro-virus protesters.

The police might as well be yelling "Be grateful you are sanctified by the touch of the master race when we deign lay hands on you to murder you, untermenschen!"

Good. Whatever it takes at this point, I’d say.

I saw a YouTube clip yesterday where 2A P.O.C. peaceful protesters in Minneapolis (long before anything got out of hand) were cuffed, arrested, and their weapons were confiscated. That did not happen to their white counterparts in Michigan. Now it has been said that Michigan right to carry laws may be different from Minnesota right to carry laws… but one person had a CCW license in his wallet, he was still arrested, and his weapon taken. He handed his phone off to another person while still recording, and the cop who cuffed him was still reading/looking at his (perfectly valid?) CCW permit as the man whose CCW permit it was… was being driven away (it was all caught on film).
So… is this different state laws… or just two different applications of law in America based on what class of citizen you are percieved to be?

I’ll just concur, I don’t have much of a problem with this.

Peaceful protests should be handled peacefully. Voilent riots should be handled violently. You start wrecking things and burning down stores? Load firetrucks with tear gas, soak rioters at will.

What if peaceful protests are handled with tear gas and rubber bullets? By your logic, then you start wrecking things and burning down stores.

Is this even a question? There’s plenty of evidence out there that white people carrying arms are treated very differently than non-white people carrying arms.

I certainly don’t know Minnesota law but my understanding, which I vaguely remember coming from colorado or California law, is that a ccw allows you to carry concealed and if your gun shows then it is brandishing and you can go to jail. I would assume it depends on open carry laws of the state then a concealed carry law. Also I’m not certain about the location of the gun for the guy your talking about if it was in his holster and hidden then concealed laws may be what controls.

My wife and i were just talking about this death last night and its crazy right now its seems like every other week there is a black guy getting killed by white guys on the news. I can certainly understand emotions reaching a boiling point. That being said rioting, looting, and burning are always a bad idea. Its not like they are burning the businesses of the cops who did the murder or even the elites in lower they believe to be complicit. Most of the time they are burning their own neighbors or business people who are just struggling along like they are.

To me, that’s the saddest part. Not only does some unfortunate person lose their life, but the protests and anger surrounding it actually does MORE damage to the local community than anything else.

^ This.

Welcome back to the civil unrest of the 1960’s.

If the authorities can murder minorities at will don’t be surprised when those minorities react with violence, as they no longer have anything to lose.

Sure, the police who murdered a man were fired - that’s not enough. They need to be tried for murder and, based on the video evidence, I’d be totally OK with life in prison for those pieces of shit who literally stood on the neck of a man on the ground until he died.

False, the store owners did not use the tear gas and rubber bullets.

Yeah, looting and burning down businesses is always the answer…

I just saw a video of seventy five armored and shielded cops protecting the home of the FIRED ex-cop who murdered the alleged forger.

“Pretty please, with sugar on top” didn’t seem to work.

Yes - because said fired cop has not had his day in court yet AND if there is punishment to be meted out I, for one, would prefer it not be at the hands of an angry mob. Because that will be very, very ugly. Not that the situation isn’t already ugly, but why throw gasoline on a fire?

That’s because contrary to the delusions of those whose life consists of rabble rousing on the Internet mob justice is not just.

It seems the city would save themselves a lot of damage, money, and grief by arresting the officer that was caught murdering someone on film, I mean what’s the hold up?

The only way that asshole should be chilling at home is if he has been arrested for murder and posted $1M bond.

ETA: somewhat ninja’d by pool.
