While I do fear what will take place in the election I do take comfort on knowing a bit of history, and have more confidence when knowing that George Bush father lost his second term to Bill Clinton after Bush tried to demonize even the peaceful protesters of the LA riots.
It is very hard to convince the ones that he is trying to get them to vote for him that the pee that the powers that be are dropping on them is actually rain.
Bush lost because Read my lips, no new taxes. The LA Riots had nothing to do with it.
When even mayor DeBlasio is putting the blame on violent rioters for surrounding vehicles and causing mayhem you know the politicians in charge fear the optics of hordes of anarchists running rampant. Really, it’s possible to protest police brutality without behaving like a thug. Arson, assault, looting, etc. has no place in a protest.
Wait, what? Next you will be saying it’s possible to be a cop without kneeling on a handcuffed black guy’s neck until he dies!
I’ve never been a fan or advocate, in stark contrast to many on this board, of police brutality, mob violence, or extrajudicial punishment.

Mind you that is not the argument the right is making when they claim falsely that Democrats approve of the rioting, the point is that regarding the innuendo of the democrats supporting the rioters, that accusation then was **useless **back in 1992. As it was then also useless for the Republicans when they insisted that they, like now they are the “law and order” guys.
And when anyone with eyes can see the police driving INTO the crowd, your “concern” is ludicrous.

Seems like the PDs that decided the protesters weren’t their enemy had a lot less violence than the PDs that decided they were their enemy. If this is true, then I would suggest that this isn’t a coincidence. Some PDs still have the 60s mindset, and anyone challenging the police must be put down. They should emulate the PDs who have moved into the present and recognize the old ways of doing things were both morally and pragmatically bad.
My daughter was marching in New Orleans this weekend. You won’t hear about the New Orleans protests because they remained peaceful.
She has publicly thanked the NOPD for their crowd control and for not going into riot suppression mode.
Strange, a quick google search shows numerous stories about the peaceful protests in New Orleans.
