We have to hope that this development continues. Instead of a Blue Wall, some law enforcement people seem to have started thinking in terms of ‘good cops policing their own’ and ‘getting rid of bad cops helps us.’
If they all start thinking that way, there will be fewer cases of abuse of police power.
Deliberation and premeditation mean that the prosecutor must show that the defendant developed the conscious intent to kill before committing the murder. This is a low threshold and does not require showing that the defendant created an extensive plan before he committed the act (although that might sometimes be the case). Rather, deliberation and premeditation require only that the defendant paused, for at least a few moments, to consider his actions, during which time a reasonable person would have had time to second guess such actions.
Bolding mine.
In a murder case in a town where I lived, a man was charged and convicted of first degree murder because he grabbed a knife before jumping out of his truck to pursue a woman, whom he killed mere seconds after he left the vehicle. He had not decided to kill her until that moment. The few seconds sufficed.
Not saying the Chauvin case qualifies, merely that you’re mistaken on the length of time necessary for premeditation.
Institutional integrity. It’s good to know that some organizations have it.
I’m sure that there are still a lot of officers in law enforcement agencies thinking, “Whatever. That’s libtard Minneapolis; that shit ain’t happenin’ here.” Maybe not. But it’s a start.

Re: Thread title changes: All thread URL’s contain the thread title, or some variation thereof. I’ve noticed that when a thread title is changed, its URL changes accordingly. BUT, all pre-existing links to the old URL continue to work! How about that.

Glad I’m not the only one who’s wondering about that. I’m going through the posts on another site, and I’m really surprised that no one has mentioned it there.
ETA: I saw the breaking news alert on my phone as I was about to leave work; I felt relief. And the video of Chauvin’s reaction was quite fitting.
I’m a little puzzled. Love the verdict, but I don’t understand the phrasing “second degree murder while committing a felony” or however it was phrased. Was the assault the felony and the taking of life while committing that felony what was referred to?
I can’t anymore . I’m constantly mixing up my OWN two phone lines when asked off the cuff - doesn’t help that they’re superficially similar ( lots of 1’s and 2’s). I think I’ve memorized so many goddamned numbers in my lifetime that they’re now starting to all run together.
