Minorities in film/TV: Demonic or angelic, never mainstream

Carlos Pena’s character on Big Time Rush is equally as talented, yet completely boneheaded as the other band/cast members. His race has never been alluded to in any way shape or form on the show or IRL that I’ve noticed - though I’ve only seen the first season and “Big Time Movie”. (James, however, makes no bones about inexplicably referring to himself as the “token Jew” out of nowhere every so often in interviews.)

Two of the leads on the Big Bang Theory are Indian and Jewish. All the (scienttist) characters on that show are eccentric and so ially inept, so by that standard they are mainstream.

King of the Hill – Khan, Min and Khan Jr. are major characters, even have some episodes centered around them. Maybe the “Asian parents expect their kids to study all the time” is overdone, but they are shown as realistic, good, but fallible people.
