I had surgery yesterday to remove my gallbladder laparoscopically. Since the painkillers have been doing a whole lot of nothing for me, I’ve been up since the wee hours. I can’t watch comedy shows since laughing, even a slight chuckle, causes me agony. I’m saving my books to read at night since I can’t get comfortable with my laptop in bed, and I need to do something while I can’t sleep. So I’ve been spending all day long on the computer.
Of course, most of that computer time has been on these boards. So I finally subscribed after a year of lurking to respond to a post (the painkillers might have had something to do with that - I have been in a GREAT mood all day despite the crushing pain every time I shift positions) and decided I might as well start a post of my own and say hello.
I’m not sure why I’m nervous - I have posted on other message boards, I even started my own board for a few friends and myself. But making my first SDMB post has butterflies in my stomach!
I guess that could still be the painkillers. Anyway, hello!
Welcome to the Dope, MissRancher! I hope we can keep your mind occupied while you recover from your ordeal. My father in law had the same surgery and was up and about relatively quickly. If your pain meds aren’t helping, call your doctor. Being in pain can slow your overall recovery.
I won’t offer you a margarita yet since you’re medicated, but I’ll have one in your honor. Enjoy your stay!
Well, you don’t have to be doing narcotics to sign up for the board but I guess it helps

Pssst, guys. Yeah, a little abdominal surgery won’t exempt her from the initiation, but maybe we should use the smaller goat this time. We want the screams to be of fear, not of genuine pain, right?
Welcome aboard! Considering your present condition, we’ll keep the goat, the lonk and the squid locked up for the time being.
My wife went through the exact same thing back in '99, and it certainly wasn’t the most pleasant thing ever. She bounced back to rights within a couple of weeks though so at least it wasn’t a prolonged recovery.
Mmmm, yeah. Listen, I’m sorry to be the one to do this, but… I saw your blog link in the blog thread, and I have to tell you that you can’t join here. Anyone who looks that good after surgery (and really, really good in non-johnnie shots) needs to just move along.
