After covering the origin of the Miranda warning during the arrest process in a CJ class I took, the professor proceeded to tell us an amusing anecdote concerning Mr. Miranda’s ultimate fate. Miranda, it seems, was murdered in a bar fight and in a twist, which seemed to me just a bit too much like literary poetic justice, the arresting officers had forgotten to read the perpetrator his Miranda rights. He was never convicted. Law types, veracity please?
Ernesto Miranda was indeed murdered. A suspect was picked up, but wasn’t convicted. Most accounts indicate that the suspect was read his rights, and did not confess to anything, so he went free.
