I’ve been reading up on the Mirena and before I go to my GP I thought I’d ask you lot if you had any experience with it.
Bascally it’s an IUD which also slow-releases progestogen over 5 years.
I don’t particularly like the idea of messing with my hormones (I reacted very badly to the pill), but apparently this is localised just to the uterus and doesn’t enter the bloodstream.
Any I’m really not fussed with the idea of having something shoved inside me like that, especially not for 5 years at a time.
Also, the site states the it’s not generally used for women who haven’t had kids, or who aren’t in their mid 30s or above. I’m 25.
It seems to be fairly new technology, I’ve never heard of it before (and I done lots of research into contraceptive methods), not sure I like the idea of being a lab rat!
Has anyone had experience, good or bad, with it?
Has anyone under 30 had it fitted? Can you feel it? Has it stopped your periods? Does it affect your mood? Anything else?
TMI questions - does it change your smell/taste? It is supposed to thicken the mucus around the cervix, is that noticable? Can blokes feel it? If you’re going for deep penetration, does it hurt?
