This isn’t the first time this has happened. A YouTuber called the Civil Rights Lawyer had a video about a similar situation, and the person they arrested had Real ID showing they were someone different. The police ignored the evidence and discrepancies and arrested the man anyway. Lawsuit is ongoing.
I also watched a YouTube video that was taken from police body cam footage in Las Vegas, where a guy was accused of trespassing in a casino. They had kicked a guy out and told him he couldn’t return, and days later, when he came back (or at least facial recognition software in the casino identified him from security cams) he was arrested.
In that case, he was let go after a number of hours, because they had all of the information for the person who had been kicked out, and they had all of the information of the person they arrested, and they were clearly different people. Yet, they still held him for hours based solely on what the software said. Eventually, someone sane in law enforcement pointed out that it isn’t illegal to look like someone else, and they had to let him go. It was scary how long it took to do that though.
I wonder if I can find the video…
Oh yeah! Here it is! It’s 17 minutes long, folks don’t have to watch it if they don’t want to of course as I think I pretty much covered everything above.
ETA: I misremembered; it was in Reno, not Vegas.
