About 19.30 last night, as I was putting on my PJs, there was a boom outside. The blast lacked the sharp supersonic crack that you get from a nearby high explosive explosion. I went outside and stayed close to the building.
No lights in the sky or the horizon, no sirens. I figured an industrial accident someplace. I went to bed.
It has been a long time since I have heard a shot fired in anger. They always seem to miss me.
In any case, I will keep my mouth shut at work and hear what the Saudis and the expats have to say and will report back in twelve or so hours.
Here is footage of what is claimed to be Patriot missiles flying up to smite the attackers. I am no expert on such things and make no claim as its authenticity.
I lurked here for years before signing up and have actually “stalked” you here. No place else, nothing creepy or anything, but I enjoy hearing your first-hand stories about how it is over there, so I would always look for your posts.
Sleep with your shoes on in case you have to run out in the middle of the night. And good luck and stay safe.
She’s right, but a “Go Backpack” isn’t a bad idea either. Are you a primary source? If I can get you in contact with Press, do you have a story you can tell them ( that you can verify ) ? Your pics, your vid work best… but if not anything that you remember/saw/heard. Who/what/when/why/how and for how long is what they’d ask. Just what you directly observed. ( Maybe write it all down now while it’s fresh in your mind? )
“BEIRUT — Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed that they hit an Aramco oil facility in eastern Saudi Arabia on Sunday, the first time the group has reached the company’s facilities in that area.
In a televised statement, a spokesman for the rebel group, Brig. Gen. Yahya Sarea, said ballistic missiles and drones hit the oil giant’s facilities in Ras Tanura, a major port on Saudi Arabia’s Persian Gulf coast and one of its largest refineries, and military positions in nearby Dammam.”
Not much to report from my own observations. No security activity on the way to or from the office. Some of the folks at work heard the explosion, some did not. Those who live in the Aramco compound said their houses shook. One family took cover under their stairs.
I will keep you informed as things develop. If they do.
Now I am puzzling over the probable blast radius of an unknown type of ballistic missile. The correct answer depends on stuff we do not know. How big a warhead? Air burst or ground burst? What do you mean by “blast radius?”
I would ask on GQ, but of course it is not a good question without more details.
