Missing a dose of effexor

I missed a dose of Effexor last night, and I won’t be able to take it for another couple of hours. I have chest pains and a headache and dizziness and all sorts of unpleasant withdrawal effects, but, despite the suck, I’m able to deal with it that’s not the point of my post.

When I get home do I take two pills (like I would for my birth control) or just one? I’m thinking that with such a volatile drug, I better just take the one, as I don’t want to mess up my dosage. So, with SSRIs, just take one if you miss a dose, right?

Thanks,
ZJ

Take one. However, if you have chest pains, it may be worse than missing an Effexor dose. You should ask your doctor about this.

That is right. You only take one. Effexor withdrawal is known to be bad in some people but chest pains may an additional cause for concern.

Thanks, guys.

I think the chest pains are anxiety-related chest tightening, but I appreciate your advice. If they continue, I’ll call my doctor.

I’d chime in, but didn’t one of the Mods lock a thread for doling out medical advice?

Always consult your physician or your pahrmacist about your medications, and never rely upon the advice of strangers (even seemingly knowledgeable ones) when it comes to your health and your life.

Having said that: Missed Dose.

Please confirm this with your doctor or phramacist before acting upon it.

I would say no, given my experience: I’ve missed Efexor doses and had similar symptoms, which my psychiatrist assured me were just due to increased anxiety levels - just resume your regular dosage: doubling won’t help. Usual disclaimer: I’m not a doctor, if in any doubt talk to someone who is.

Incidentally, Efexor {Venlafaxine} isn’t an SSRI, strictly speaking, since it affects noradrenaline as well as serotonin levels: I would recommend a chat with your GP or psychiatrist just to be clear on exactly what you’re taking and what it does to you.

Please consult your doctor. This is closed.
