Best wishes to you! Have you tried going out late at night, when things are more quiet, and called for your cat? I’ve read that sometimes a cat won’t come when called because strange noises, people, etc. are freaking them out. Also, with the permission of the principal, you might want to post flyers at local schools. Churches wouldn’t hurt either.
Both of my cats have gone missing, but not for very long. They ocassionally get a bit too enthusiastic chasing a bug and tumble off the balcony into the bushes. They meow their heads off and I go collect the little dummies, rumpled but none the worse for wear. Yeah, I kinda feel guilty, but their pitiful little faces, when they want to go onto the balcony, are too much for me. Marshmallow, thy name is BadBaby.
I’m sorry to hear about your cat. I’ve learned that sometimes a cat tends to stay within a three-house radius. She could be closer than you might think. Sometimes cats won’t come when you call them because they’re too scared. Hopefully she’s not sick – cats can want to be alone when they’re not feeling well, a reason they sometimes run away, just to hide.
My previous cat, Feral, went missing for four days once. Showed up on the back step when I came home from work one day, glued himself to my ankle for the next 24 hours - he was frightened but otherwise okay.
Hope? Well we had a cat go missing for months. Then it turned up one day (alive of course).
Also, we once had 11 cats (two adults and nine kittens) we ended up with 3 of the kittens (after giving the rest away) all 3 would regularly spend days, sometimes weeks away from home. (they went on cat-holidays). [irrelevant]one of the ones we gave away had kittens. We recieved one of them - sparky. The best cat IMO we ever had. Sparky and Larry (one of the original 9) knew they were related (uncle and nephew) and got on like a house on fire. Sparky was the one cat I was truly sorry to lose[/irrelevant]
One time my uncle moved house (well moved county actually) They lost their dog so had to leave without it. Eventually the dog turned up at their new home, many many miles away (my geography is shite, so I can’t say how far. Lets just say it would take like 3 hours in a car)
Hamish’s cat has escaped twice. Once she stayed gone for about a week (we were frantic with worry; she came back pregnant) and another, for just a day, after her kitten was stillborn. As you can see, she came back both times none the worse for wear.
Both our boys went missing last Christmas. It was shortly after a big snowfall. The younger left about the 18th and didn’t return untill the 7th of January and the elder went missing on the 23rd and came home the 3rd. Why they both went at the same time I do not know, but we were exstatic when they both got here. The elder seemed to have come out of it better then the younger.
My son and I were searching the woods behind our house and saw a flash of white and there she was! She wouldn’t come to us when we called for her but we did catch her and bring her back home. I can’t even describe the feeling I had when I first saw her in the woods! It was such a huge relief! After we brought her in she headed for a bite to eat and a nap just like nothing ever happened… We kept hugging and kissing her and she just looked at us like we were crazy. If only cats could talk! She is home!
I have been putting off reading this thread because I didn’t think I could take bad news right now. I love cats, so this stuff hits me hard. Then, just when I get up the courage-----your cat is back!!!
Great news! I had read this thread earlier and didn’t want to give my experience with missing cats- one never came back, one was gone five days and did come back, but he had a broken pelvis. He healed up fine and was back to his old self in no time, but it broke my heart to think of him out and hurt, crawling to make it home.
my cat never came home about one month ago.
he was a beautiful cat, and he was my baby.
I put up flyers, called shelters, put an ad in the paper with a huge reward and nothing.
can’t tell you how much it hurts my heart. i loved him very much.
