I don’t know if this is a GQ or a IMHO. I also don’t know if this is something that will get closed for medical advice, but really I’m asking for advice about getting medically advice.
My period seems to have disappered this month. After being very heavy last month. I can’t (sadly) be pregnate and I’m a bit young for menapause. WTF?
How concerned should I be? Any advice would be appreciated.
How old are you? One of my cousins got menopause at like 40, and someone else on my mom’s side of the family got early menopause at like 29.
Anyway, losing a period even when not pregnant isn’t that unusual. A lot of women tend to experience it (if anyone wants a cite, I got it from a book called "The Underground Guide to Teenage Sexuality my Michael Basso). This can be due to losing a lot of weight or gaining a lot of weight, stress, or a diet change. 's normal.
All said and done, if you’re really concerned, go see your gyno.
I started getting irregular at around 45 and I’ve been basically done for over 18 months. I’m 50. A little young, but definitely not out of the range of normal. I was irregular for years before the final hurrah. And like clockwork for most of my life.
I once completely skipped a period, for no apparent reason. I have always been pretty regular, and I was on the Pill, but it didn’t show up at all–I wasn’t stressed, I wasn’t skinny, or anything. It came back the next month and has been fine ever since.
Lots of factors can mess with your cycle, as previous posters have said --stress, weight loss/gain, etc. Certain medications can also throw your cycle out of whack.
That being said…if you don’t mind my asking, how old are you? You mentioned that you think you’re too young for menopause. I’m wondering if you might be starting perimenopause, as missed and/or wacky (very light or incredibly heavy) periods are one of the signs.
Me too, except for being on the Pill. Quite scary, since I was sexually active at the time, but I don’t think it was an early miscarriage or anything like that. Sometimes your body just likes to play tricks on you. That’s when you have to beat that thing into submission.
I know someone who is starting to become irregular at age 36, so it could be perimenopause too.
My period is totally wacky that way - it was before I went on the pill - I was on the pill for 10 years and just went off before X-mas last year and I haven’t had a normal cycle yet. Sometimes 2 months between, sometimes 28 days, sometimes 36. Currently it’s been 43 days since the first day of my last period and it doesn’t look like it’s going to show up anytime soon.
I wouldn’t worry too much unless it happenes again, or is really weird when it does show up.
One thing that’s a bit worring for me is that this time I actually COULD be pregnant!
However, I’m also super stressed and haven’t been eating much of anything for about a month, so that’s probably what’s going on with my girl parts.
Nothing had changed for me one time when I had my period for two weeks straight, and that’s not like me at all. Went back to normal next month and forward.
