Misspellt name on airline tix.

I bought an airline ticket several months ago for a number of folkks including a girl named “Meagan” to travel from Richmond, VA to San Jose, Costa Rica. We depart next Saturday.

I just found out her name is “Megan” not “Meagan”. Will this cause me undo troubles? Security being what it is, will they give us trouble at boarding time over an errant “a”?

I suggest that you contact the airline. You may be able to get a replacement ticket with the correct spelling.

That type of thing isn’t usually a problem as evidenced by the fact that women sometimes go by a few different last names if they are married. My wife goes by first, last, and hyphenated and never has a problem when other people buy her tickets. I go by my middle name and have been Ok as well.

I flew from Nassau, Bahamas to Chicago, IL a couple of weeks ago on a ticket issued to “Micheal S.” instead of “Michael S.” (It had been re-issued by the airline after they had to re-route me.) Nobody batted an eye.

I doubt very much that they’ll give you any trouble (unless, perhaps, her last name is Muhammad). Call the airline to let them know, anyway. Have fun in Costa Rica!

First name is probably okay, but the airline once messed up the spelling of my wife’s last name and it was a pain.

Sorry to resurrect thus thread, but i think it bears posting.

The girl on my trip who had her name spelled incorrectly on her ticket? It was never even an issue. She got right on the plane without incident.

Yeah - it’s usually not, even with heightened security. I had a misspelled name on a ticket and the ticket counter lady actually brought it up. I said “yep - it’s misspelled.” And then she took my bag and gave me my boarding pass.

I think if you FREAKED OUT when they asked about it and said something like “yeahitsmisspelledbutIdonthaveabomb”, then the airline might have an issue with you.
