I saw Mitch Hedberg on TV a little while ago and he really cracked me up. He’s almost as funny as George Carlin (IMO). Has anyone seen his whole act? Or bought his CD? I’m just wondering if he used all his best stuff for the 5 minute spot I saw him on, and flounders in a 1 hour type setting.
Anyone who’s interested, here are some Mitch quotes.
I just saw him at the Orpheum theatre in Boston back in October!
He was fantastic - I’d seen him many times on Comedy Central, and always wanted to see him live!
I never stopped laughing the whole show. It’s his delivery that makes his jokes just that much funnier, too.
Stephen Lynch opened for him (if you haven’t heard of him, he’s a comedian who mostly does very, very dirty, and offensive songs w/ his accoustic guitar - funny, funny stuff if you like that sort of thing, and I do!).
I wanted to get his CD, but didn’t have money. I think he also has a DVD out, but I’m not sure about that.
Anyway, I highly recommend him, esp. if you thought he was funny for the few minutes you saw him.
I’ve got both of Mitch’s CDs, “Strategic Grill Locations” and “Mitch All Together,” the second of which was released as a CD/DVD combo by Comedy Central.
Both of Mitch’s CDs are available on www.emusic.com. They’re excellent.
I saw him in Tampa last August. He had a notebook of bits with him, to which he kept referring, and he seemed to be drunk or stoned. Everybody laughed anyway.
Sure have! I saw him at the San Jose Improv. and he was fantastic.
Be forewarned that Mitch likes to party and he has been known to be pretty damn wasted on stage.
Definately go see him. He has tons of material and you will laugh your ass off.
Well, GOING to see him is out of the question, for the time being. I willl have to pick up his CDs though.
I saw him as low man on the Comedy Central tour with Louis Black and Dave Atell.
It probably was one of the nights he was drunk or stoned, because he was rambling, mumbling, and nearly incoherent. Was he funny? How could anyone tell? I would have kicked his ass off the tour and bounced him back to New York if I were in charge.
He’s very very funny live.
Definitely see him.
BUT, he uses a lot of the same material over and over again. So don’t necessarily go see him again.
Seconding what others have said. My wife and I saw him a couple of years ago as the headliner at a local comedy club, after having enjoyed a half-hour set on Comedy Central. He was up for about an hour. He was already stumbling drunk when he took the mike, and he finished something like three or four more cocktails during his set. He had a notebook to which he referred when his memory failed him, which was frequently.
And he was still pretty damn funny, despite a vague and growing sense of embarrassment from the audience about how sloppy drunk he had gotten by the end. His material is strong enough that it works pretty well even when his performance is sub-par.
Bottom line: We enjoyed ourselves, though as the evening went on the gaps between belly laughs started to stretch out, and we probably won’t see him again any time soon.
Which is another problem: If he keeps this up, he’ll be dead in five years.
