MLB-2 outs in the 9th

As I recall, the big objection to bunting for a base hit in a no-hitter is that it’s done to throw the pitcher off his rhythm, make him field his position, etc. If you’re doing it on the last out, and the pitcher throws you out, the game is over, obviously. There’s no disrupting his rhythm when the game is over.

Bob Brenly would still find a way to complain about it, though.

The pitcher doesn’t want that and neither do the fans. Suppose the starting pitcher was perfect through 8 2/3’s. Is the final out not supposed to lift his bat off his shoulder? Let’s say he is at 8 1/3, can the batter bunt then?

Yeah, I know it may be bush to try to get hit by a pitch or to bunt, and as early in the season as it happened to Darvish, it would have been looked upon badly, but the goal is to win games. You don’t win games if you give a perfect game to a pitcher.
