MLB 2020 Spring training thread starts here

Just two days away. It has been a long wait.

Play Ball!

And I’m so glad to finally get baseball rather than the damn sign stealing.

As of right now, I’m paying strong attention to the NL Eaat which seems the strongest division, but I’ll also be watching a lot of Angels games adding Rendon makes things very interesting for them.

(Insert pic of me virtually protesting outside the Red Sox training grounds as they labor to now trade away their CFer.)

JBJ…who as i love to play with endpoints…has out WARed Bryce Harper the last four years

Pain and degradation to the Asterisks!

Go Dodgers!

Goddamn Shitballs. Luis Severino to have Tommy John surgery. Please don’t be a replay of 2019; I just want to see the whole team healthy at the same time. Just for one season.

Not an Astros fan, but shouldn’t that pain be reserved for players who played while the sign stealing occured? Recent acquisitions and rookies should not suffer the same as the actual cheaters.

Also players who played on the Astros who cheated but are now on other teams should also receive that pain.

Fucking great

Yeah, Severino going down probably for the whole year sucks. Worried about Judge, I suspect his shoulder is worse than they let on. But what pisses me off most about the year so far are the fucking Nike swooshes on the front of everybody’s jersey. How long before MLB goes full NASCAR and the team logo gets lost in all the advertising?

It’s a miracle but it looks like my cable company is carrying the new Cubs network on digital cable but not at a special tier.

I was sure they were going to squeeze me.

Severino is out and may even miss part of next season. Judge will be OK but Stanton might have a minimal year again. On the bright side, Andujar is looking good in Left so far, Frazier is looking better in the field, plenty of kid pitchers to hold the rotation together until the early June reinforcements of German & Paxton return. Voit & Ford are looking good at the plate.

I think Clarke Schmidt has a shot to be an outstanding pitcher. I only saw a couple innings of his work but I thought his stuff was electric. Deivi Garcia also shows a lot of promise. Honestly I’ve given up on Stanton, I think it’s time to put Frazier in left full time and see what he can do. For Andujar, his best position is DH.

You can’t give up on Stanton, you have to do something with him when he’s healthy, and he belongs to the Yankees pretty much for the rest of his career.

Incidentally, am I the only one who doesn’t care about the Nike swooshes? I don’t like ads on uniforms in principle, but at this point the Nike swoosh is such a common thing I don’t really see it anymore.

About the swoosh.

In MLB, it is positioned high on the undershirt to make it visible with the uniform. And it is on almost every player.

Who gets the reward? The player, club, league or everyone? Because it isn’t on every player, did that player turn down the cash, or is they making a statement?

Thanks

If a player isn’t wearing the swoosh it’s probably because they have an endorsement contract with another company.

The Nike swoosh will be on the front of every single MLB uniform jersey in 2020. It’s a ten year deal that will net each team about $3 million per. Yeah, it’s shit.

One thing I’ve always liked about American sports and hated about Euro sports is how the soccer teams’ jerseys are basically just billboards. Oh well.

MLB uniforms have borne corporate logos for some time now. This is the most prominent yet but it’s not a new thing in general.

European soccer uniforms are just on another level entirely, where they don’t even bear the name of the team, so it appears as if the guy is playing for Chevrolet or Emirates Airlines.

MLB (and pro sports in general) is panicked about attendance flatlining, so they are doing what businesses always do when new customers aren’t showing up; trying to get more money from existing customers. Share of wallet, so to speak. You can expect more of this shit.

Eagerly anticipating the next season-ending Yoenis Cespedes injury.

What will it be this time? A catastrophic zipline break? Attack by rabid chihuahuas?

My money’s on a head-on outfield collision with the utterly useless Tim Tebow.

At least the Mets have a surfeit of sort-of competent outfielders.

The Tim Tebow thing just continues to mystify me. The Mets - even the METS - know he will never be a competent professional baseball player. WTF is going on?

It in theory brings in some extra fans {paying customers} to their spring training games. They feel it is making them money and some free publicity. They have no self-awareness when it comes to embarrassing themselves so no problem there.
