Last year I played 2K7 as I found it to be better than the Show so I never played RTTS before this year. I will say that when you are just trying to blow through a few games in RTTS the large number of fast forwards and game loads does tend to grate a little bit.
Actually, the most annoying thing about RTTS is that once you are on base the computer gets up and hits at least 5 foul balls every stinking at bat. THAT slows it down alot. You can turn the fouls down with a slider but I think that just moves them to regular strikes.
You’re exactly right with that. I actually find myself being thankful when the batter after me hits into a double play so I can get off the basepads. I think I’ll crank down that slider. Regular strikes are fine because at least I know I’m not going to see repeated 10-12 pitch at-bats, which are the norm currently.
It’s a shame because I enjoy some of the announcing and replays, but the gameplay itself is so slow that I have to have fast-play turned on for the sake of my sanity.
I’d be curious to hear what kind of experience LOUNE and mshar have had playing online, if any, with 2K8.
I’ve played a LOT on Xbox Live. I’ve played a good amount of Madden on Live. There’s been virtually no lag at all. I can remember a couple of hiccups in Madden, but that was because he had a crappy/failing connection and he lost connection right after the small bouts of lag.
You can’t be telling me that PlayStation 3 is having lag problems. That just doesn’t make any sense. They’ve had a console before. They learned from Live. Right?
Then that could mean that Sony’s servers are sluggish. Here, try going to the website for the game, see if they have forums and see if they do, in fact, have a problem.
They don’t run on servers. They are basically P2P connections. I tried to play 2K8 online and that was no better on 360 so I don’t know what’s up. I can play CoD4 and other games online with no lag at all but The Show and 2K8 play like garbage. The forums over as PS all complain about it too.
Sucks because I would like to get into an online league.
The forums I’ve read are hit-and-miss. Some people get lag, and some don’t. I’ve got a very fast fiber-optic connection at home, so we’ll see what I run into.
Cubsfan, I sent you an add request last night. I may have some time for online play either tonight or during the day on Saturday.
I think I’m going to work on beefing up my RTTS player’s stats and then step it up to Veteran or beyond for difficulty. And I when I create a pitcher, I will play on a higher level.
Hmm… I saw you online today and sent you a message from the XMB but I don’t know if they show up in the game like Xbox Live. I think in order for us to play each other you need to have set up a sportsconnect account and be logged into it so when I log on I can see you online within the game and we can play. FYI you can still play single player stuff when you are logged into SC.
Let me know when you do this.
Also, do you have a microphone or something so we can communicate?
I saw you online, but I was in the middle of a RTTS game, and just as I got out to try to connect with you, you logged off. :smack:
From now on, I’ll log on to SC first and then go do whatever else. And yes, I have a USB microphone, but not a headset. Will I be able to hear you through the TV speakers, or do I actually need a USB headset?
The content of the message did not, but I did get notified that you had sent me a message while I was in my game. Problem is, I couldn’t figure out if there was a way to get to the message without having to quit my game.
I never really cared about the framerate issues because they didn’t happen during gameplay. There’s still the second and a half loading when changing pitchers, though. I’m fine with that.
I haven’t yet. I haven’t hopped online still. I’ve been hella busy.
And now your Wii is going to provide you with even MORE distraction. FOCUS, man!
In other news, my RTTS career keeps on rollin’. Actually, I’ve got two of them. My pitcher is in July of 2008 in the Dodgers organization. He was recently promoted to AAA, and he’s won his first two games there. I’m definitely finding the pitching more challenging than I did last year, but it’s fun. I’m throwing a 4-seam, 2-seam, sinker and sweeping curve. I feel like I really need a change-up in there as well, but I’m going to wait until I can pretty well max out my stats on the first four pitches.
My left-fielder seems to be doing quite well. After going to the All-Star Game in his first year and leading AA in a number of offensive categories at the end of the season, the team promoted him to AAA – but there were no games left to play. Then, he got no contract offer. So he resigned with the Dodgers for 2009, had a stellar spring training, and was offered a one-year contract for $560,000 to be a bench player with the major league club. He’s performed well enough (in just over 100 ABs, he’s batting about .350, one homer, seven doubles, 11 stolen bases) that he’s been given the permanent starting job in left.
I’m meeting the majority of my goals, but I’m continually frustrated by having very little left over to maintain my other levels and hardly any to improve. In some ways, I feel it’s more realistic than last year, though. I can’t build my power up very quickly, and I still need to be very selective about the pitches I go after. In MLB 07, I felt like I could go after just about anything in the strike zone and produce.
All that to say that I’m having a very good time with the game, and wish I had more free time to play it.
Hey everyone, been interesting reading this conversation. Hope you all don’t mind a quick threadjack.
I haven’t played a baseball game in years. Literally, like, five years. But I do remember that no game came close to matching MVP for quality. The pitcher-batter interface is the most important part of a game to me, and MVP nailed it. I loved being able to strategize my pitches (by looking at the screen that listed every pitch I threw to the batter and where it was in the zone), and knowing that it mattered if I threw a fastball before a changeup.
So which of these games would I like? I have both a 360 and a PS3. The pitcher-batter interface in 2k8 sounds very interesting, but is the strategy there? Am I rewarded for mixing up pitches with swinging strikes? The polish of a game matters too, so The Show isn’t out for me, but I’m completely uninterested with the RTTS feature. Madden’s Superstar mode is a complete joke.
