MLB and the play review team

I have a few questions, and the search engine couldn’t help. Plus, you folks are more entertaining. And thank you for that!

Concerning the folks that all called upon to review plays in MLB,

  1. Do they have more than one team available to review? It may be rare, but there could be multiple requests for review at the same time, no?

  2. And there may be a lot of down time, between review requests. What do they do? Play cribbage? Watch videos about reviewing plays?

  3. Who are these people? Their backgrounds? How are they selected?

  4. Are they allowed to accept gifts, free tickets, etc. from Major League Ball Teams?

Any help in helping resolve these questions, is appreciated.

Plays are reviewed by MLB umpires. Working the replay room in New York is a rotating assignment, just like being on the field crews.

Thank you. That answers a lot of my questions.

And I was hoping to apply for a position on the team. Out of luck. I am not an umpire.
