MLB: April 2021

Aaron Hicks is going to sit out tonight as some sort of protest. New York Yankees' Aaron Hicks sits out Monday's game in wake of police shooting

Not that I need any incentive to root against the Yankees but I definitely hope they lose tonight. I’m sure some of his teammates aren’t amused.

Are you rooting against them because the rest of them aren’t sitting out or he is?

The latter, I strongly suspect. @dalej42 has expressed, in other threads, a strong dislike for athletes making protests or otherwise disrupting games.

I think he’s making a mistake by sitting out. But, I emphasis that I dislike the Yankees and didn’t even root for them post 9/11 when everyone was a New Yorker

You’re consistent dale, I’ll give you that much.

Aaron Hicks has decided to sit out Monday’s game against the Blue Jays in response to the fatal police shooting of a 20-year-old Black man in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Monday.

What a terrible thing. A black man is having a hard time with another black man being shot by the police and doesn’t feel he’d be at his best tonight.

Let’s root for his team to lose…

ESPN article also noted Hicks was drafted the Twins and played in Minnesota before being a Yankee.

Can’t blame Hicks for sitting out. As pointed out, he used to live in the area. I’d rather him not play if he can’t fully concentrate on the game. Whether it’s taking a knee during the anthem or sitting out a game when a police killing happens close to home or even a former home, I don’t fault any athlete for doing what they think is right.

MLB did cancel the game today with the Twins/Red Sox because of riot fears. I doubt any baseball is getting played in MN soon. MLB should have just shifted the series to Boston for tomorrow rather than likely losing this entire series. Or, are they going to do fanless games again?

Happy to see you disappointed today. Yanks won with Hicks missing the game.

Of course I’m a lifelong Yankee fan, but it did make it sweeter to see you disappointed by the result. I think even if I was a Red Sox fan I would be rooting against you on this one.

Jays had their chances and didn’t convert, they deserved that loss. Can’t have those types of chances against the Yanks and leave runners on base

They should have tried to score more runs, because then they could have won the game.

Joe West has won himself a half-million-dollar defamation award against former player Paul Lo Duca, who claimed in a podcast that West called strikes for Billy Wagner in return for use of Wagner’s classic car.

Joe West is an asshole supreme, but that classic car story sounds phony as hell.

I’d love to have a world where I barely know the names of the umpires

How bad are the Cubs right now?

Their 49 hits to start the first 10 games this season are the lowest number of hits in any 10 consecutive game stretch for the team since at least 1901.

Can we say “Reversion to their mean”? Sure we can. Time for another century-long drought.

And today I agree with you instead.

To be fair, I only know the names of a few Umps and most of them are the terrible ones. West & Angel stand out the most to me. Bucknor next I guess.

Look at the bright side. They averaged 3.5 hits through the first six games, so they’ve gone crazy, banging out an average of 7 hits per over the last four contests.

Ouch, this is embarrassing. The Nats finally get their players back and are getting crushed 14-1 and it’s only the 6th. Day game tomorrow as well as no days off until next Thursday means bullpen management, I’d have position players pitch.

Everything Lo Duca said is easily disproven with the easiest of Google searches. It’s a stunningly dumb thing to do.

Well, the Nats had Hernan Perez pitch an inning, as you wanted, and damned if he didn’t go 3 up, 3 down, with two strikeouts.
