MLB: August 2015

Using RickJay’s figure of 10300 to 1, it would take around 7140 instances of 15 games played in a day to reach the point of 50% probability of a home sweep. If a full slate is played 150 times a season, that would be around 47.6 seasons. To reach the point of 75% probability, it would take around 95 seasons. For 90% probability it would take around 158 seasons.

:smack: Yeah, I realized that just too late.

So it should happen once about 60-70 years or so. Which it now has.

I’m rooting for your team, they picked up some really nice pieces and are playing out of their minds. I’m also rooting for Johnny Cueto and the Royals as well. Jays v Royals would make a heck of an ALCS.

I did it I got a free pizza from dominos for the no hitter

“Congratulations.
Here’s your code valid for one free Medium 2-Topping Handmade Pan Pizza.”
today was a good day

Godammit, I almost turned on my radio to listen to the Mariners yesterday, but decided to watch videos on YouTube instead. So of course, today I learn that Hisashi Iwakuma tossed a no-hitter :smack:

What really surprised me: This was the first AL no-hitter since Felix’s perfect game in 2012? Seriously? The last two no-hitters in a 3-year span have been by Mariners pitchers?

I prepped myself for this this morning-- and by “prepped” I mean I made sure I knew my MLB.com password, logged in, poked around, made sure I had the time and everything else straight. Had myself all geared up to log in directly at 3pm.

Didn’t remember til 4.

No surprise at all: Josh Hamilton getting an MRI on his knee. Not sure he’ll offer the Rangers much of anything down the stretch.

Blue Jays release Joba Chamberlain. I remember in 2008, ESPN was hyping him like he was the love child of Cy Young and Nolan Ryan.

The Jays have now become the first team since the 1954 Indians to win 11 consecutive games twice in a season.

Their starters have gone 17 straight without allowing more than 3 earned runs and the bullpen has posted 25 consecutive scoreless innings.

It’s a treat to know they can win without scoring 10 runs.

Now the Yanks come to town, determined to burst the happy Jay bubble. I hope they wait at least one more game to do so. Toronto has never won 12 in a row.

Even Hutchinson had a good outing in his last start.

For those who aren’t following the Jays too closely, Hutchinson, who was mercifully demoted to #5 starter by the Price trade, sports an ERA of 5.26 – and an 11-2 record. That says all that you need to know about the Jays offense this season.

Red Sox managed John Farrell just announced that he has stage 1 lymphoma, is starting chemo on Monday, and will be stepping away for the rest of the season. Torey Lovullo will fill in as manager. Yikes.

I don’t recall there ever being so much as a whisper of the Blue Jays calling him up.

Joba Chamberlain is the poster boy of why babying young pitchers doesn’t work. All the pitch counts and whatnot just don’t seem to have any effect at all on the likelihood of a pitcher getting injured. Remember the “Joba Rules”? God, they treated Chamberlain’s arm like a Stradivarius, and it broke down anyway.

Greetings, baseball fans. It’s been a rather odd year for me in terms of baseball. I’ve watched very few games, and this is my first foray into the baseball threads since April.

I was pretty busy in April, May, and June, and just wasn’t following the game closely enough to participate in the discussion. Then, during all of July and the first half of August, i was visiting friends and family in Australia, where baseball gets about as much attention as jai alai. I’ve actually spent much of the past six weeks watching Australian rules football and rugby, as well as watching the Aussie cricket team get their clocks cleaned by the Poms in the Ashes.

But i arrived back yesterday, just in time to see a $25 offer for MLBTV Premium, so i’ve signed up and plan to try and make up for lost time over the next six weeks or so.

Unfortunately for my Orioles, the AL East is starting to look like a two-horse race. I was amazed at some of the moves that the Blue Jays have made, and it looks like it’s all paying off right now. Baltimore is only 1.5 back in the Wild Card race, though, so i’m not throwing in thew towel yet. Let’s Go O’s!

In local news here in San Diego, Matt Kemp tonight hit for the first cycle in Padres history.

To be fair, his 2007 numbers were pretty freaking ridiculous. Very small sample size, of course, but in his 24 innings pitched, he gave up 1 earned run (for an ERA of 0.38), 12 hits, and had 34 strikeouts and 6 BBs.

Red Sox get 37 runs in 2 days off the Mariners. I mean what the hell. King Felix must be pitching injured.

FTR, Bradley is not this good. But you already knew that, right?

Looks like baseball finally has it’s Michael Sam. There should be a lot less hype.

Nor is he as bad as the .100 average he sported a mere week ago.

Yes, I did. I hope this late outburst is pumping up his trade value.

Same thought here. Maybe somebody else will get fooled into thinking he’s finally learned to hit a slider.

Madison Bumgarner goes the distance against the Nationals, tossing a 3-hit shutout, striking out 14, and hits a double and a HR. Not a bad day’s work.

The Giants DL currently consists of 3 starting pitchers, 2 starting outfielders, the starting 2B and the backup catcher. That they’re hanging around in the WC race is a miracle.

Interesting. Cherington stepping down in Boston, Dombrowski taking over.
