MLB: August 2017

The guy who threw out the first pitch at today’s Red Sox game missed the plate by about five feet and nailed a photographer right in the, er, lower belly area.

OK, that’s another item for the “King of Baseball” thread. No ceremonial pitches by people who can’t get the ball over home plate, unless they’re children.

It looks like Garcia on the White Sox hit a home run on the first pitch of the game, two games in a row!

And they’re playing the Dodgers. Yu Darvish tonight.

Unbelievable!! The Dodgers score 3 in the bottom on the ninth to win 5-4. Wow. Just wow.

Dodgers!

Just like the Red Sox

There are some signs that Judge is getting back on target again. In the last 7 he’s hit .250 at least, since the all star break it was more like .150.

Yanks are mostly pitching well but still light on the hitting. Problem is the Red Sox keep on winning and so we’ve lost ground in the division while gaining a little in the wild card.

Cubs won last night on a walk-off wild pitch. That’s after the bullpen AGAIN blew a huge lead. Nice to get the W, but this business of yanking the pitcher before he hits 100 pitches and turning everything over to the bullpen every game is beginning to wear.

Sounds like you could get Chapman back.

I think Chapman will pull through this bad patch, but I know many, many Yankee fans that would pack his bags and drive him to Chicago to get him out of here.

Judge is still setting records.

Speaking of streaks, did Joey Votto’s consecutive game multiple on-base streak end last night (the box score lists one hit for him and no walks)?

The Yankees have a fantastic bullpen. Chapman should only be used in low leverage situations until, or if, he gets back to his usual self. His ERA is near 4 and that’s unacceptable for a closer on a contending team.

My biggest beef with Girardi as a manager is his inflexibility. If the Yankees flame out this year, it might be time for a change.

Here’s a stat trivia question for anyone so inclined to do the research. I just watched Carlos Carrasco struggle through 39 pitches in the first inning, but despite loading the bases with nobody out, the Twins didn’t score.

So, what’s the most pitches a single pitcher has ever made in an inning without allowing a run?

Cubs have come back from a 9-0 deficit in the top of the 2nd, it is now 9-9

Votto’s streak was broken, he only reached once. MLB Network showed his groundout in the 7th. Their analysts are funny. As you know, had Votto reached base twice it would have tied the record with Ted frickin’ Williams for longest ever streak. Here was (roughly) their exchange regarding the streak.

MLB Analyst: “That’s a really tough thing to do.”
Harold Reynolds: “Yeah, that’s why only a handful of guys have done it.”

No, HR, not a handful of guys. One guy. Ted frickin’ Williams.

It appears the “Renounce racist legacies” trend has hit the Red Sox.

John Henry is apparently going to push for changing the name of Yawkey Way, outside Fenway Park.

Oh good Lord.

If it were up to Henry, he would rename the street “David Ortiz Way” or “Big Papi Way.”

Is 406 Ted Williams Blvd. not good enough?

Bucky Dent Way has a nice ring to it. :stuck_out_tongue:

How about Curt Schilling Street?

Oh, right…

Bernie Carbo Boulevard.
