MLB: August 2018

Gotta say that the Nats sure are glad they fired the guy who led them to two straight division titles. Such an improvement this year!

Cubs need to get something going. :frowning:

Eh, Sox were bound to stumble at some point between now and October. Dropping 2 games to Cleveland doesn’t get me too excited.

They’re likely to meet in the playoffs, and confidence does matter then. All that the Indians have seen of the Red Sox this year is a team they can handle, and all the Red Sox have seen of the Indians is a pitching staff they can’t hit. Yes, the last 2 games might be different, but at best this is a split series.

A team that has given up on the post season this year, and is starting to rebuild. If there were an award for not performing up to potential, the Nats would be in the Hall of Fame.

McCutchen sitting today, and Twitter is full of trade rumors.

Addison Russell to the DL, so perhaps Murphy makes more sense now, plus there’s no need to rush Kris Bryant back.

Indeed, tonight’s starting lineup is exactly as I stated. :smack:

And look, Boston destroyed Cleveland tonight. So do they believe in themselves again? But how could they have won if they didn’t already?

Professional baseball players are not going to have their confidence damaged by a couple of games in August.

Is it reasonable to expect them to make the playoffs yet? They’ve been playing some good baseball lately. Only four losses in August, all of which were close (by one run, and IIRC they managed to get a man on in the 9th).

The playoffs aren’t a coin flip, RickJay.

I don’t usually watch replays of regular season games, but I’ve got to see the Nola vs Scherzer game from this afternoon.

I’m thinking Nola has the NL Cy Young locked up

Here’s the tale of the tape, going into today’s game. It’s a close call. Max does have 74 more K’s but if the Phils can win the division, Nola might get the nod.

Boston didn’t appear too worried today.

Yeah, it’s amazing how after their spirits were totally crushed and they might possibly not win another game this season, they went on to win the next two games.

What are you talking about? Who said they were?

It’s just in case you happen to think they are sometime in the future.

You think MLB might want us to buy some player’s weekend jerseys? Over the past 24 hours, I’ve gotten at least 7 alerts from the MLB app. I think it is stupid, it’s just a too obvious money grab.

Rookie David Bote hit another major home run today for the Cubs, winning the game 3-2 in 10 innings with a solo homer. In the last month, he’s hit a 9th-inning game-tying homer against Arizona, a 9th-inning grand slam with his team down 3-0 against Washington, and now today’s homer against Cincinnati.

Bote would be a regular on Toronto. He’d be at worst their third best hitter. Too bad he’s buried in Chicago.

He’s been a regular part of the starting line-up since arriving there. I wouldn’t call that “buried.”
