MLB: August 2025

I didn’t see the August thread yet.

Buncha injured folks being called back up from the minors tonight.

We’re at the point in the season where the chronic stress injuries explode and it’s luck of the draw whether any given team is largely spared or mostly decimated.

Yankees release Marcus Stroman to make way for their new acquisitions. Also Luis Gil is expected back from IL this week. Judge should be off IL by mid-week but will only DH for now.

Did the Dodgers do anything useful before the trade dead line? i can’t tell by the articles..

Well, they’re destroying Milwaukee as we speak, so that’s something

psssst…the Dodgers beat Tampa Bay tonight. Milwaukee thumped the Nationals, 16-9, getting 25 hits in the process.

A bunch of football scores tonight: 16-10, 16-9, 13-12.

Long story short, got invited to great seats at the Mariner’s Rangers game last night. It was about as fun a ballgame as one can attend, assuming you’re not on the losing side. Sure, wasn’t a nail biter, hard fought game, but a lot of fun. Weather was perfect Seattle summer - sunny, 70’s, and would have needed a hoodie if it went on longer but it didn’t.

2 homers in the same inning. Including one by the Big Dumper that cleared right field by less than a foot. A nice triple. Rangers had a couple of unenforced errors. Close to a 9 inning, 2 hour start to finish game, except Seattle’s pitcher tripped in the 9th and getting him off the field delayed the clock.

First ballgame I’ve seen in about 10 years, and I’m prolly up to about a dozen lifetime games total (Giants, Fuckin’ A’s, Tokyo). Again, it was a ton of fun last night. And I guess Seattle is in second place gunning for a wild card.

And don’t forget 17-16.

Pittsburgh scored 9 runs in the top of the first in Colorado, and later led 15-6. But the Rockies scored 5 runs in the bottom of the ninth to win the slugfest.

Famous sportscaster joke:

>And in partial scores today, Yankees 5.

Gambling situation in Cleveland takes another step as the lockers of Clase and Ortiz are cleared out. I assume they’re done for the season if not their careers

Yankees release Stroman. Can’t say I’ll miss him- maybe he’s one of those guys who can’t pitch in New York and will do better elsewhere.

And the Cubs bullpen gives up another easy win. Up 3-0 at the bottom of the 7th. Gave up 4 in the top of the 8th. PCA had a terrible game (0-5). We’ve only lost 2 series all year, but we always seem to give up 1.

A series sweep is hard. Both teams learn, but the folks getting beaten learn more.

Just played Go, Cubs, Go at my favorite bar. I’m liking this baseball season.

The Brewers swept the Nationals in a three-game series this weekend, in which they got 56 hits and scored 38 runs. They extended their lead over the Cubs in the NL Central to two games, and continue to have the best record in baseball.

On the other hand, over the weekend, two of their young stars went onto the injured list.

  • Rookie starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski was placed on the 15-day IL this morning, with a contusion to his left shin, which he’d suffered when he was hit by a ball batted by Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki in his last start, last Monday. The injury continued to bother him over the course of the week, and the Brewers temporarily shut him down, with the expectation that he’ll be ready to return to the rotation after the 15-day period.
  • Outfielder Jackson Chourio was also placed on the 15-day IL on Friday, with a hamstring injury, which he’d suffered on Tuesday. The Brewers are less bullish on the timeframe for his return, with manager Pat Murphy saying “it won’t be any time soon.”

Speaking of sweeps, yesterday Miami beat the Yankees to complete their first sweep of New York in franchise history. The Marlins, who were once 16 games under .500, are now 55-55.

Meanwhile, Boston won their fifth in a row, sweeping the Astros and pulling within 3 games of division-leading Toronto.

Any day Boston wins and the Yankees lose is a Good Day. Even better if somebody other than each other delivered the whacking.

And, several of the other cellar-dwelling teams of recent years are now on pace to be simply bad, not horrendous:

  • Athletics are 49-65, on pace for 70-92.
  • White Sox are 42-70, on pace for 61-99.

Even the Rockies are no longer on pace to surpass last year’s White Sox for patheticness. They are now at 30-81, on pace for 44-118.

Dang, the Miz is a great pitcher, that’s not good.

Thankfully, it’s not an arm issue, and I’m hopeful that skipping a couple of starts will be enough recuperation time.
