MLB: August 2025

My brain insisted on reading that as “expected back from Illinois.”

Lock the front door, oh boy !

Today the AL East-leading Blue Jays won at Colorado 20-1. They had 24 hits today, which gave them 63 for the 3-game series, a major league record. Toronto scored 45 runs in the series, which is a franchise record for a 3-game set. The Rockies scored 6 runs in the 3 games.

Toronto’s win coupled with Boston’s loss to the Royals gives the Jays a 4-game lead over the BoSox, who had won 7 in a row. The Yankees snapped a 5-game losing streak with a win over Texas and remain 6 1/2 games behind the Jays.

Mercy rule?

I don’t usually like these Fox National games, but tonight is fun.

Cubs kicking ass tonight. There’s a kid dressed as an umpire that the tv coverage is focusing on and they may as well.

Mariners finish their second series sweep in a row today. They’ve won 9 of their last 10 games. They are only a half game behind Houston in their division.

Cal Raleigh hit his 45th HR of the season today. He’s only 3 behind the all-time record for a catcher in MLB history. He’s also 9 away from the record for HRs by switch hitters, which was set by Micky Mantle. He is in first place for HRs currently, 4 ahead of Shohei Ohtani, and also first place for RBIs, 3 ahead of Kyle Schwarber.

I’ve been afraid to post anything about this run they’re having. But it’s been fun to watch. Tied for the first wild card, and close to first place in AL West. Houston series next month could be epic, or a disaster.

They can’t catch Houston because Houston is playing the Yankees who are a complete garbage team right now.

He seems to be the real deal, but his first major league game was June 9th of this year. So a bit of a gamble by Boston to commit to him until 2034.

The only one of the 3 deals they look to be regretting at the moment is with Kristian Campbell. It’s a gamble on both ends: the org. wants to make these guys cost-controlled through ~ age 30, when their decline phase typically will be hit, but they could flame out. The rookie wants more money a few years before they hit arbitration and then free agency, but they could become superstars without a chance for a huge payday until their 30’s.

It’s an interesting World Series rematch tonight with the D Backs and Rangers. Doesn’t necessarily jump off the mind as a classic series, but it looks like one of the better offerings on a slow night on MLB.TV

Suddenly both West divisions have turned into hot races.

Seattle has won 8 in a row and is now tied with Houston, with both teams having records of 67-53. Since that’s also the best wild-card record, they are both looking good for the postseason right now.

In the NL West, San Diego has won their last 4, while the Dodgers just got swept by the Angels. As a result, both teams have W-L records of 68-52. That record is just a percentage point behind the wild-card leading Cubs, so, again, both of these teams are in playoff position.

42 games to play in the regular season. Should be some interesting baseball down the stretch.

Brewers are now 12 wins in a row, and 8 games ahead of the second place Cubs in the NLC.
(I don’t really follow baseball but still find this cool)

Brian

The first series of the year the Yankees destroyed the Brewers so badly people were saying their bats were illegal(they weren’t). Now the Brewers look unbeatable. That’s baseball. It’s been an odd year and I love it.

They’re 21-4 in their last 25 games, and 31-9 in their last 40 games. Their record is 6 games better than any other team in MLB at this moment. It’s one of the best stretches of play in the franchise’s history.

There’s a reason why they say that a baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint. What happens in one series is just a blip in the overall picture of a team.

Dodgers are playing the Angels tonight, so no sweep. Yet, at least. Give it a few hours.

Oops, my bad. Good catch!

and then they lose two in Baltimore. (I still have hope though)

Baltimore has been halfway decent at home, and they were playing with crazy things like ridiculous heat (Munoz was really struggling with that) and rain delays which can screw up any team. And you don’t have to win every game or every series.

They have a couple of really tough opponents coming up, if they can get through this road trip with a 4-5 record or better I’ll be thrilled.
