The Yankees vs. Phillies game tonight is also cancelled. The Yankees would have had to use the same clubhouse facilities that the Marlins just used for their series in Philadelphia.
This does not bode well for the season. The MLB precautions are falling short. I think we’ll see more players opt out this week and maybe just a complete cancellation.
Am I the only person who feels that the cardboard cutouts of fans that they are putting in the seats of empty stadiums are weird and a little creepy?
I suspect most people do.
MLB was effing stupid for not following the NBA’s bubble model. They spent so much time debating how much of their megasalaries the players would earn (in a season without fan revenue) that they didn’t think much about logistics.
As much as I love baseball, I think cancelling is probably the right call.
As I understand it, they thought about it and decided it was unworkable. Larger rosters, and the players wouldn’t agree.
Well the season was fun while it lasted. I think by the end of the week it will be all over.
Yeah, that was a fun opening weekend, but it’s doomed at this point.
Sigh. Ray Charles say this coming weeks ago. I’m guessing the season is over by this weekend. NFL, College Football, are ya listening?
Given the nature of all this new shit, it’s obvious there will be a lot of postponements and cancellations (assuming the season isn’t cancelled outright). This will require a whole lot of doubleheaders. Early on, one plan was to make all doubleheader games last only seven innings, but that plan hasn’t been enacted. Why wasn’t this rule added for this year?
You can become resigned to hanging by your thumbs.
Doesn’t mean it is a desirable situation.
The Washington Nationals are scheduled to travel to Miami to play the Marlins this weekend. It appears that the Nats may be unwilling to do so – a source told SI that, at a team meeting yesterday afternoon, most of the Nats players expressed to GM Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez that they were uncomfortable going to Miami now; Rizzo and Martinez apparently indicated that they would be taking it up with MLB.

Marlins games through Sunday have been postponed.

The Nats announcers just said that the crowd noise will be pumped in for the Blue Jays as if it was their home games
No qualms, whatsoever, in seeing the Marlins outright disqualified from playing, like, AT ALL, this season, now.
And the Phillies?
If you have to somehow disqualify one team in the first week, shouldn’t the whole experiment be abandoned?
Don’t feel bad Mike. Us Canadians have been blacked out on MLB.TV for ALL Blue Jays games, “home” and away. WHY??
That crossed my mind - just doing the whole season in. If there’s much more pretzel-bending to make this season happen - maybe so, then.
