MLB: July 2011

I’m so pissed off right now. My cable system does not carry the Saturday 1:00 game, and it’s blacked out on my MLV.tv package so I can’t watch Jeter try for 3000. He led off with 2999 today. At least I can listen to the radio broadcast, but it’d be nice to watch. How is it good for baseball to have the Saturday afternoon game unavailable for fans? Sure, I could go to a bar, but my 8 year old wants to see it too.

Deserves its own post: 1 to go for Jeter. I know it’s fashionable to bash him for his D, and he’s obviously in major decline, but having watched his whole career I’m incredibly excited to see him get it.

The Rays-Yankees game is not blacked out on my MLB.TV package. I don’t know why it would be blacked out in North Carolina.

Son of a… you are correct. I could have sworn that all the Saturday 1:00 games were national and subject to blackout. I swear I’ve tried earlier this year and they weren’t available. But thanks!

and to give credit where it’s due, thanks to the highlights feature of MLB.tv I got to watch the 2999th anyway.

Wow! With a dinger! Way to go Jeter, that’s the way to do it.

  1. What a nice round number, and done with style.

Totally amazing. Way to go Jeter

Interesting, but irrelevant because (A) the front office makes Boston’s player moves, not the second baseman, and (B) if they do go get an RF, they’ll far more likely go for a right-handed one to rebalance the lineup, and (C) they won’t give up a top prospect to get a short-termer anyway.

Besides, the Dodgers will have a new owner, or at least receiver, pretty soon, and the hopelessness should subside.
And a tip of the cap to Derek Sanderson Jeter! I still can’t believe no Yankee ever did it before.

Hell of a game for Jeter. Get 3000 on a homer and 4 hits already + a SB.

Now the Yanks need to win the game. I’m rooting for a Jeter Triple so he can also have the Cycle today.

I will settle for a Go Ahead single though in a** 5 for 5 day**.

Unbelievable.

I forgot to mention - that’s a great example of LaRussa’s lifelong obsession with overmanaging. He seems to need to show he really is on another plane of intelligence than ordinary managers, certainly ever since George Will’s slobber-job of a book about him.

Padres and Dodgers in the bottom of the 9th, tied 0-0.

There have been 9 total pitchers used, and a total of 1 hit in the game.

The 5 Padres pitchers are currently combining for a no-hitter.

The Dodgers were no-hit by the Padres through 8 2/3 innings today, and mustered only two hits for the entire game. But it was enough, since the Padres only got a single hit.

Dodgers win, 1-0, for the second consecutive game.

I seriously doubt anyone outside of LA or San Diego is watching this game.

Agreed, it makes no real sense on the face of things. I only mentioned Pedroia because he is the reason why the rumors are focusing on Boston instead of anywhere else.

That said, Ned Colleti, the Dodgers GM, has to know he is a lame duck. He has been a fairly…uninspiring GM up until this point and there is a very real possibility that he could go off the rails and send Ethier away for almost nothing. Not a huge possibility, I would but it at less than 10%, but the possibility is there.

What is more interesting to me is that this got made public at all.

I spoke about three minutes too soon. :frowning:

My last couple of posts were veering dangerously far away from my sunshine and lollipops Dodger news campaign, so let it be said that, though I didn’t watch the game myself (bad timing for me on the East Coast on a Saturday), I notice that Rubby De La Rosa has now put up 2 fantastic starts in a row. Good for the new kid. We all expect big things from him, so it’s nice to see that he is looking like he might live up to his expectations even though he was called up a little raw.

Luke Hochevar is being out-Hochevared by someone named Charlie Furbush in Kansas City tonight. Even uglier is the huge mistake the Royals front office made. Today is Negro League Day, and the Royals are too cheap to put the players in throwback jerseys to commemorate the day. For a team in the city that founded the Negro League and hosts the Negro League History Museum, it’s a massively lost opportunity.

Padres/Dodgers final line:

Hits:Padres 1
Dodgers 2

Runs: Padres 0
Dodgers 1

Final: Dodgers 1, Padres 0.
Unreal.
