Pardon me. Not Griffey, but Jay Buhner (vs. Red Sox):
He sure did that. ![]()
I was listening to that Mariners/Red Sox game on the radio, and the main point the announcers made was the fact that Buhner caught the ball as he flipped over the wall, and then returned to the field of play with the ball in his glove. That is what made it an out instead of a home run.
Your boy dropped the ball after he jumped over the wall, and returned to the field with an empty glove.
Billy Beane seems bound and determined to turn the A’s into a minor league team.
They’re green-painted galvanized steel sheet wrapped over concrete. So, yes.
I can’t believe LaTroy Hawkins is still in the league. I watched him pitch 22 years ago in Single A. I hope the Jays do get a starting pitcher. I’d like to see them do well this year, since the Red Sox are a dumpster fire by now.
Millions for Masterson, Ramirez, Napoli, and Porcello, but not one red cent for padding?
Glad they’ve got their priorities straight. ![]()
But the rebounds are more predictable.
I remember saying this before 2013, and then they won two division titles.
Of course, much of Oakland’s plan involves getting out of Oakland, so who the hell knows what the ownership (of which Beane is a member) is up to.
Another Jays fan here and you can colour me confused by the deal. I have to think AA still has something simmering on the back burner that he’s hoping will come to a boil.
Travis re-aggravating that shoulder last night could alter plans and let’s hope Bautista only had a cramp and not a strain. If they’re both gone for any length of time you can likely forget a late run, even if Anthopolous comes up with another arm.
Dodgers get Mat Latos and Mike Morse from Miami for three warm bodies.
To be honest, the more I think about the Tulowitzki trade the more disappointed I think people are going to be. He is being hailed as a virtual Willie Mays, and he isn’t.
The likelihood Tulowitzki can turn the team around is very small. Toronto is 50-51. Unless they sweep the Yankees in all 13 remaining games with them they are not going to win the division. Practically speaking, how many wins will a team need to make the win card game? Let’s guess 87, that being, IIRC, what it took last year. Or maybe it was 88, but let’s say 87. That means Toronto has to go 37-24 the rest of the way. (Or 38-24, to make the ALDS, and the 38th has to be the last one.) Does this look like a team that is going to play better than .600 ball just because they upgraded the glove at short?
If they added a Grade A starter I’d STILL be a bit skeptical, but I’d say the likelihood of a .620 run was at least reasonably possible. Right now I find it very unlikely.
On the bright(er) side for the Jays, the Twins are just 2.5 games ahead of them in the race for the second wild card (and have been, I think, a sub-.500 team since mid-May).
And the Jays are essentially even with teams like the Orioles, the Sox, and the Rays, none of whom seem any more of a threat to play .600 ball the rest of the way than the Jays do.
I agree that Tulowitzki probably isn’t quite what Toronto needs, but I’m not sure who is a better choice to win those 87 games than the Blue Jays are. Who knows, maybe it’ll take just a little bit more than .500 to make that wild card game…
Expect Morse to never get a chance to wear Dodger blue. He’ll be packaged and sent to some other team by tomorrow. Unless the Dodgers make a stupendous move and package Puig for somebody like Hamels.
In other news, Kershaw is a scratch for today’s game with hip troubles. Bolsinger will get the start instead, with Kershaw leading off against the Angels on Friday.
Impressive performance by Lester today with 14 K’s. Still the Cubs almost managed to choke it away, squeaking out a 3-2 win.
Tulowitzki hit a homer on his first at bat for the Jays.
The Mat Latos to LA deal is now reaching something like 4 teams and 10 players, including David Price. Hamels is going to the Rangers in a separate deal. Zach Wheeler goes to Milwaukee for Carlos Gomez.
And now reports are that the Carlos Gomez deal will not happen
Tulowitzkimade a splash with his new team.
I’m always amused when an routine error turns a whole team into a bunch of flailing seven year olds and the batter gets a Little League home run.
