MLB: June 2017

Well, it was still a nice outing for Pomeranz, just didn’t get the W obviously. The Sox bullpen has been solid almost all year. What an 8th inning, though. Walk, walk, walk, grand slam.

He’s on the DL with an ear infection now.

I would suggest to the Red Sox they hire a doctor willing to insist that darn ear infection just won’t go away until… let’s see… November.

Oh, that’s obviously the plan - he’s going to take a lot longer than 10 days for it to clear up, then as long a rehab stint in the minors as they can get away with. I’m just surprised they found a plausible cover story.

The unwritten rules of baseball took a bit of a pounding yesterday.

Yasiel Puig took a bit too long admiring his massive homer against the Mets, and got an earful for his trouble.

And Seattle batter Jarrod Dyson, whose team was down 4-0, broke up a perfect game with a bunt base hit. The Mariners went on to cut the deficit, and then win the game.

I have no problem whatsoever with the bunt to break up a no-hitter. I don’t understand why that’s frowned upon by some. It’s not cheating, it’s not showboating, it’s not causing injury.

Indeed. They even came back to win the game. Typically a disinterested party is going to root for a guy a no-hitter or perfect game situation, but the other team is not supposed to let him have at it. You do what you have to do to win the game. If a bunt is going to put a runner on the bases, so be it. What were the Mariners supposed to do? Let him have the perfect game so he could feel good about himself, maybe get him some ice cream after the game?

Now, stare at your home run too long? Next at bat maybe don’t dig into too hard. Nothing at the head but deliver one gently in the back. As Crash Davis one said - Run Dummy!

The Mets are just sore because they suck and the Dodgers are pounding them into the turf. That was a *lovely *home run, and Puig was justified in watching it fly. He got a nice little response in to the loud-mouthed 3rd baseman, too.

Well the Mets do suck (thanks to far too many injuries) but Puig is a punk for admiring his homer. Its bullshit and you know it.

Agreed. It was only the 6th inning of a fairly close game. A bit early to worry about a perfect game. Is a bunt single to lead off the game a “violation”?

What did give me a chuckle in the Mets game was Cespedes, of all people, lecturing Puig about showboating.

We were listening to the Mets’ radio broadcast during that incident last night. One of them was saying how Cespedes hotdogging was OK because it fit with the culture of the Mets, who were happy to let Cespedes do whatever he wants. But that what Puig does is outside of the culture of the Dodgers, so people have to get on him about it.

Some truly bizarre logic going on, there.

Cubs sending struggling Kyle Schwarber to Triple-A Iowa.

He can’t run. He can’t catch. He can’t hit. Maybe he can learn to grow corn.

That is insane clown logic.

Bullshit. He watched it for maybe a second, and it was fucking magnificent.

I literally do not understand the mentality that a guy who just smashed a home run is supposed to put his head down and trot around the bases as if nothing happened. If you don’t want to see someone watch their home run, then don’t hang your pitch out over the plate to major league hitters.

If hitters like Puig admiring their home runs gets under the skin of douchebag players and self-righteous traditionalist fans, all i can say is that i hope he does it every time he hits a dinger.

And why don’t these unwritten rules apply to pitchers? Pitchers glare at hitters. Pitchers pump their fists when they get a big strikeout. Max Scherzer goes into Tourettes-like rants before he throws the ball.

Exactly. He didn’t do his typical bat flip. He didn’t pump his fist rounding the bases. He watched to see exactly how far up the bleachers that hit would land is all. Is it his fault that took a bit? :stuck_out_tongue:

What happened in the Rangers / Jays game this afternoon?

I looked up to see a run-down between third and home of a Texas player. He dove back to third and was called safe. I thought he looked like he was out, and then it looked like it was under video review.
Suddenly he was awarded home plate!
What?
I saw this in a bar with no volume, so beats me what happened. And it makes no sense.

Yeah, I remember saying the Red Sox should trade Jackie Bradley for Schwarber. And there were rumors the Cubs might have been able to send him to the South Side for Chris Sale! Doesn’t sound like there is anything lingering with his knee, but I wonder.

Haven’t seen the play, but was there interference? Is interference reviewable?

Tulowitzki was called for obstruction on the play.

Yep, it was interference. Here’s the play.

Thank you.

Wait, what? If you interfere with a player attempting to return to a base, they advance a base? How does that make any sense?
