I hadn’t realized that both had the same number. I thought they were just retiring Randy’s number. Good move. (I should have realized it, I have a 51 Ichiro jersey)
As woebegone as the Mariners franchise has been throughout its history, it’s amazing to think that they managed to have two different HOF players who wore that somewhat unusual uniform number.
Rockies beat the Marlins tonight 6-4. They are now 10-50, a winning percentage of .167.
Pretty fun game tonight in Boston between the Angels and Red Sox. Trout reminding us why he can still be a stud with 3 hits and 3 RBIs
De La Cruz had his sister die this weekend. He chose to play afterwards before returning home, and hit a home run.
Don’t get me wrong: from what I’ve seen of him, he’s an outstanding player, very fun to watch, and I wish he wasn’t playing for one of my team’s division rivals. But, at this early point in his career, he’s definitely a free swinger, hence the strikeouts.
Shohei Ohtani has scored more than a run per game; he has 64 runs in 58 games.
I believe the last player to score more than a run a game was Rickey Henderson in 1985.
Break up the Rockies! They just snapped a streak of 22 consecutive series losses.
I now see that people are calling Pfaadt’s performance a “Yes Hitter.”
Rockies just won their third game in a row over the Marlins.
They are now 12-50 for the season.
Their first three-peat of the 2025 season. And they get a rest day before playing the Mets on Friday.
Their first time sweeping a team in 3 games since May 2024
Hell, this is the first time they’ve won three games in any stretch of TEN games.
The Braves are having a rough time.
Today they had a 9-3 lead going into the 8th inning at home. Then a pitcher named Scott Blewitt gave up three home runs and two walks in 1 1/3 innings and another pitcher completed the debacle as the Braves lost to the Diamondbacks, 11-10.
Blewitt* is kind of an unfortunate name for a reliever.
Bummer however had a good outing for them.
*Maybe it’s pronounced BLEE-witt.
One game I saw broadcast, it was pronounced Blew-it
It ain’t over 'til it’s over
The Nationals radio guys pronounced it “Blew-it” and made a comment about the name, iirc.
I just came across this clip. The day after Armando Gallaraga’s perfect game was stolen by a bad call on what should have been out 27, umpire Jim Joyce met him at home plate to shake his hand and apologize. Joyce is visibly upset and apologetic, clearly knowing that his miscall cost Gallaraga a chance at the history books. It’s a real testament to Joyce, who I understand to be a widely regarded as a great umpire many respect.
I really honestly don’t know why Selig and now Manfred haven’t overruled this. What would be lost by admitting this mistake?
Because it’d open up the floodgates to reversing a bunch of other calls.
Everyone knows Galarraga threw a perfect game.
Is there a list of calls people have grievances about? Is the concern that it’ll become the presidential pardon of sports - that some jackass would reverse Denkinger’s call at first, and that would somehow result in the Cardinals winning the Series?
The Braves have sent Scott Blewitt to the Orioles in exchange for cash, after acquiring him from the Orioles earlier this season, also for cash.
Thus is the circle of life.
*the Braves also called up Craig Kimbrel from Triple-A.
