What’s weird about the Achilles is that it usually tears in non-contact incidents. In the NBA, Tyrese Halliburton just had an Achilles tear, and it wasn’t from contact with another player. It tends to be the same way in the NFL. It doesn’t seem to be as prominent in the MLB as the other sports, though.
Like Dre Greenlaw tearing his while jogging on to the field in the Superbowl.
No, they just said who made the next round of fan voting. And Betts is not having an awful year. He’s not hitting as well as HE usually does but he’s an above average hitter and is a very good fielding shortshop.
The Royals got swept for the 3rd time. At home. This month. Should be fine - they only host the Dodgers this weekend. Ugh…
Since May 23rd, the Savannah Bananas have won more games at Kauffman Stadium than the Royals.
Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater dislocated his knee during a practice, as well as tearing his ACL and other structural damage, with no contact involved. He was just doing a play-action, where he faked a hand-off to the running back and then stepped to throw, and that step destroyed his leg. During the ride to the hospital, he couldn’t feel his foot, and they were concerned he’d lose his leg.
The surgeon who operated on his leg said it was “the worst knee dislocation in sports I’ve ever seen without having a nerve or vessel injury”. He further said, “You’ve torn every single thing in your knee and it’s hanging on by one ligament on one side like a hinge.”
Later, Teddy speculated that he might have actually torn his ACL prior to the injury. Earlier in the week, he was running with the ball and juked to avoid a tackler, and his knee felt bad after that, but he thought it was just “camp legs” (which I presume is a term for the feeling a player might get in returning to intensive practice after an idle offseason). So he ignored it.
Either way, though, those are pretty routine things that an athlete does. Running and stepping. No collision, no risky play, just normal stuff. You never know what can cause a catastrophic injury.
He’s now revealed that he will miss the rest of the season.
Those Texas Rangers World Series were amazing, 2011 should have been different
No hitter in progress and watching on MLB.TV.
Nick Martinez of the Reds with a no hitter going at Cincy. Bottom of the 7th now
Broken up in the 9th inning on a pinch-hit double.
Toronto’s All-Stars this year will likely be Vladdy Guerrero and Alejandro Kirk. Guerrero will probably win the fan vote and if he loses to Jon Aranda will probably be chosen anyway, and deserves to be; Kirk won’t, but he’ll be named to the team, and he deserves to be.
But Toronto’s best player by WAR is… Ernie Clement. Seriously. He’s batting over .300, he’s one of the best defensive players in the majors, does little things well. He’s the best overall player on a team that’s in a playoff spot. He won’t get the nod but absolutely deserves to.
RIP Dave Parker
Guy had a cannon in right field.
Hall of Fame does another bang up job of electing a guy right before he dies before the Inauguration.
Ohtani made his second start of the season today in Kansas City; he pitched two innings, giving up no runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, with 1 strikeout.
The Royals won 9-5, snapping an 11-game home losing streak. They continue to lead the majors in fewest runs scored.
At least he lived to see himself be elected. They’re elected guys in the past right after they died.
Parker is a marginal Hall of Famer, but for a few years there he was a truly awesome player. Cocaine derailed the middle of his career.
Parker was married to his wife for a long time, and they had six kids. (He was also a successful franchisee with Popeye’s.) From what I can tell the latter half of his life was quiet and happy with a loving family. That’s all that matters.
That was actually his third start.
Ah yes, my bad.
The Washington Nationals get a jersey sponsor, AARP.
Nothing like that to remind you how old most of the politicos in DC are!

Speaking of the Nats, no one is talking about him it seems, but James Wood is absolutely slaughtering baseballs there. He’s only 22 years old and he’s just hitting the bejeezus out of pitchers. He’s a good outfielder and runs pretty well, too.
