It’s isn’t often that my interests in baseball and the rock band Genesis overlap but here we are:

Agreed. Cam looks like the real deal.
Yes but Righetti was a great starter early in his career and became a great reliever. After recent studs-to-duds experience with WIlliams and Holmes, maybe it’s time to think outside the box and at least consider a move to the bullpen for Cam.
They need 5 starters. Even when Rodon and Cole are back they will need to have him in the rotation. He’s doing great as he is and he eats up innings. I see no logic in moving him to the bullpen.

You don’t trade 150+ innings for 60 innings, unless the pitcher can no longer hold up. Every reliever in the history of baseball would have been a starter if the GM thought they could do it instead.

No - Righetti was a good starter for a single season, and average for 2.
Carlos Mendoza has accomplished one thing. He’s held on to his job longer than Rob Thomson. Phillies fire their manager. Don Mattingly moves from bench coach to acting manager. I’m not sure if at this point in his career he wants to hold that position long term. I’m also not sure if his son being general manager makes things more or less complicated.

That is a bizarre dynamic and I’m willing to bet it’s never happened before in MLB.

Preston Mattingly is just a figurehead. Dave (“Who needs right-handed hitters”) Dombrowski calls the shots and is the one who should have been fired.

That’s just what ChatGPT told me, so it must be true.
Ha. Here’s something slightly more definitive (though I’d bet a nickel this account’s research department is just a ChatGPT account…) :

Yanks call up #3 prospect Elmer Rodríguez to pitch Wednesday.
22 year old Righty. 20ks in 21 innings. 1.27 ERA at AAA so far. He had a great spring.
Squonk leads off their excellent Trick of the Tail album.
Musical nitpick: Squonk is the third track on Trick of the Tail (and yes, it’s a very excellent album). I’m guessing you confused this with the live version that leads off the also excellent Seconds Out album.

Roster spot was open because Stanton was put on 10 day IL.
Well, that figures. Giancarlo is 7 for 21 with four homers vs. DeGrom.
No breaks for the Mets. Soto has forearm tightness. MRI was negative. Supposedly it only affects him when he throws. He will DH for the time being.
Luis Robert Jr is day to day and on the bench with lower back issues. With the way he’s been playing that might be good news for the Mets.

Three against the Nats may be just what the doctor ordered.
It’s when one says something like that that the “bad” team comes in and kicks the shit out of you.
In that scenario which one is the bad team?
I just read in The Athletic that Ildemaro Vargas of the DBacks has hit in each of the first 22 games of this season. That ties Joe Torre for 8th best all-time in the majors for a hitting streak to start the season. The record is 34, set by George Sisler of the St. Louis Browns in 1925. Ron LeFlore of the Tigers had a 30-game season-beginning streak in 1976.
Torre, by the way, hit .363 for the Cards that season (1971) and was the NL MVP.
Also interesting is that he primarily played 3B that year, according to Baseball Reference. How common is it for a veteran catcher to move to 3B and have a great year?
