MLB: May 2016

Wow. Did Chris Hatcher get traded to you guys when I wasn’t looking? :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, it would have been possible before interleague play, which is why I’m surprised it never did. There were 2 divisions in each league (East, West), meaning 4 first place teams total.

There still aren’t 4 first place teams in one league as there are only 3 divisions (East, West, Central).

Yeah, you’re absolutely right.

Forget everything I said in my post (except the part about LA).

ETA: OK…*most *of the part about LA. It would have been possible from 1961-1965, when the Angels did actually play in Los Angeles, before Angels Stadium was built.

The Giants starting 5:

Bumgarner, Cueto & Samardzija are a combined 11-4, 3.35 ERA

Peavey & Cain are a combined 1-7, 8.39 ERA

We’re praying for 2 days of rain every week. Yeah, the Giants will be taking a long look at Lincecum.

Looks like the White Sox got touched that past series.

Happy 85th birthday to the greatest baseball player of all time.

Say Hey!

The start of Another Sunny Day for the Chicago Cubs.

End of 5th.

Cubs: 7
Nats: 2

Giants GM Bobby Evans basically said “we don’t have a place for him right now” yesterday on a radio interview.

Which probably means that they’ll be offering him a contract this afternoon. At this point, almost anything would be better than what they have.

One of the truly irritating things about the Astros’ season so far is that they’ve wasted an amazing start from Jose Altuve, who is the best player in the majors so far this year.

It appears to be “Always Sunny in Chicago” this season. As a diehard fan, it has me nervous. But maybe they’ll again make it to October before being completely useless.

Position player, yeah. Jake Arrieta may argue with you otherwise.

The appropriate Onion story, for those who haven’t seen it yet.

Technically, Altuve is at 2.3 WAR to Arrieta’s 2.2 at the moment (per ESPN).

Watched a few innings of the Dodgers/Blue Jays game today.

Whenever i watch the Dodgers play, i hope that opposing hitters send the ball out to right field, because i could watch Puig all day. Darwin Barney tried to get to second on a shot down the line, and it seemed like two bases were there for the taking, but Puig gunned him down with an absolutely amazing throw.

MLB has it here.

On this date, The Cubs… The Chicago Cubs… are 22-6. How long can this go on???

Well, if they get rained out today, they’ll still be 22-6 tomorrow. So weather permitting, it could last for quite a while

23-6 Cubbies! “Untouchable” Nationals my foot.

Who are these Men In Blue??!?

Bartolo Colon just hit his first MLB HR. At age 42. Against James Shields. In Petco Park, of all places. Has there ever been a more improbable sequence of events?

It’s really worth watching. The call from Gary Cohen is terrific, and you can hear Ron Darling laughing his ass off in the background.

This is going to be exhibit A in why the N.L. should never have the DH
