MLB May 2024

The Dodgers didn’t strike out once Monday. The Twins have won 9 straight (it helps to be playing the White Sox.) Trout is out for the season. The Asterisk’s are in last place in their division. We are off to a fun start this season!

Yanks fell out of first last night losing to the O’s who took over the #1 slot in the AL East. :frowning:

The Mariners starting pitchers have gone 18 straight games where they have given up 2 or fewer earned runs. They’re 11-4 in the last 15 games. They just clinched a series against the Braves, allowing only 3 runs in two games. I apologize for being snarky last week when they were in first place and I said I was going to enjoy it for probably the last time this season.

I’ll bet he’s back by the ASG.

Mike Trout is basically the righthanded Ken Griffey Jr. Awesome, awesome player, but injuries are ending things early and it looks like he’ll never be in a World Series.

The Braves have been winning with Riley and Olsen in major slumps for the past 3 weeks or so and with Acuna unable to hit a fastball and a strikeout rate more than double last year’s. What a team!

So I see Blake Snell has returned to his normal not greatness, putting up pretty horrific numbers.

In 3 starts (just 11.2 IP) he’s 0-3 with an 11.57 ERA and a 1.971 WHIP. Opponents are hitting .340 against him with a .944 OPS. He has a -0.6 WAR.

I see why he wanted to flip that Cy Young into a 9-year contract; he knew he’d be shit for at least 8 of those years. Everyone who passed on him was absolutely correct. I don’t blame the Giants for taking a flyer on him, but just imagine the shit everyone would be throwing around if he had accepted that 6-year deal from the Yankees. They’d crucify the guy in the middle of E 161st Street.

Snell has had an extremely inconsistent career, but drawing conclusions on 11.2 IP in 3 starts when he didn’t have a Spring Training and got hurt during his 3rd game seems a tad premature. He’s shown he has the ability to be a dominant force on the mound - that’s valuable (but not nine-year-contract valuable…).

Wasn’t expecting this. Luis Arraez to the Padres. Pretty big trade for early May. The Marlins have been horrible, but it’s still early and they could turn it around. Can’t imagine waiving the white flag before Memorial Day.

No they can’t.

Twins now have a double-digit win streak going. The secret is to play teams with “Sox” as part of the name, I guess.

Looks like six weeks for Trea Turner.

Cubs take 2 of 3 from the Brewers and are now tied for the Division lead (although still slightly behind on win % since Mil has played 2 fewer games).

Highlight from yesterday, Michael Busch playing 1st makes a diving tag on a bunt:

He clearly will never accumulate sufficient counting stats to put himself into the top tier of CFers despite his historic peak. Heck he’s 90 HR behind Junior thru the same age (32), and hasn’t even cleared 1,000 RBIs yet. Not anywhere close to a household name, and not even the presence of another hostorically peak player in Ohtani ever got him close to the playoffs much less the WS. Will almost certainly end up as the most underrated/unappreciated superstar in the history of the sport.

Yanks swept Detroit but remain 1 in back of the O’s.

Judge hit his 7th home run yesterday and his batting average is slowly creeping up. Soto is the only Yank hitting over .300. But the pitching has been very good with a team ERA under 3.00 and Clay Holmes still has a 0.00 ERA while closing.

Marlins have already thrown in the towel on the season, trading Arraez to the Padres for prospects.

Dodgers have a 7 game win streak going, with games against San Diego and San Francisco up next.

Yanks play at 5pm today. They beat Houston soundly yesterday and Judge has a homer and 2 doubles and is up to .236 now. Meanwhile Soto added 5 more RBIs and is batting .338.

Yanks are behind Baltimore by percentage points only.

The Yankees can sweep the season series with a win tonight. As pleasant as that may be, I’d much rather beat them in a postseason series. For once.

I will be perfectly happy though if they’re not in the postseason and the Yanks are.

Former MLB player Sean Burroughs dies at 43. He was coaching his son’s Little League team at the time…
