Yes, I freely admit I was surprised when I looked at the standings this morning and saw that Atlanta has the best record in baseball right now, and they’re the only club over .700.
Judge just hit his 14th Homer, that should put him at #1.

Bone spurs, so not great obviously but not Tommy John territory, as he is forecast to have a chance to return in August/September.
IMNAD, but AIUI, surgery for ‘loose bodies’ in the elbow is not the same as surgery for bone spurs.
Good news for Yankees- Randal Grichuk was DFAd by Yanks and picked up by White Sox. Why he was picked up in the first place is beyond me.
They got him because he’s a right-handed batting outfielder with a career OPS of .815 against lefty pitching. He was meant to be the outfield version of Amed Rosario. It was a low-risk, sensible pick-up, but the Yanks had a roster crunch with Dominguez forcing his way back into the majors. They would have kept him otherwise and we can’t really judge the guy on 33 PAs.
Even as well as the Brewers have played the last few years, one of their ongoing weaknesses has been power. Despite having the best record in baseball in 2025, they finished in the bottom third of teams on home runs, which, in this era where the homer is king, likely has contributed to their lack of postseason success. has limited how far they have been able to advance in the playoffs.
This season, they are next-to-last in MLB in home runs, with no one having hit more than 5; the fact that three of their best power hitters – Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Andrew Vaughn – have missed most of the season to date undoubtedly hasn’t helped. Even though they’re in last place in the NL Central, they’ve managed to hold their own, and are two games above .500.
Help is, hopefully, on its way: they activated Chourio and Vaughn from the IL yesterday. Both of them started last night’s game against the Cardinals, and Chourio went 4-for-4. Yelich is still on the IL with an adductor strain, though he was taking swing during batting practice yesterday; he is projected to return in the next few weeks.
It will be interesting to see what they do with Dominguez. It doesn’t look like Stanton will be out long term. Dominguez did well in AAA and is starting to catch on with some good at bats since he came up. It’s only been 6 games but his BA has come up to .273 and hitting with some power. Unfortunately no one has any faith in his defense. It would be great if he could be the 4th outfielder and alternate DH. It would fit into the rest plan they like to have but he’s been an embarrassment in the outfield.

Ben Rice is still considered day to day with his hand contusion but he’s out of the lineup for the third consecutive game. Rain is due tonight but I do think they will play.

Rice is still out today. Caballero has been hot lately. He got hit by a pitch yesterday in the elbow and they are sitting him today. Weathers has been pitching well lately and he’s sidelined with a stomach virus. Bullpen game today. Looks like the backup team is playing this afternoon. Rare 12:30 game with them travelling to Milwaukee with no travel day off. Tomorrow.
Rumor is they will be trying to get Rice in the lineup tomorrow.
